We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yashodhara Suri. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yashodhara below.
Alright, Yashodhara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Is there a lesson you learned in school that’s stuck with you and has meaningfully impacted your journey?
One of the most important (and first) lessons I learned in school was when I went to Montessori school in Pre-K and Kindergarten. They would always instill in us “to learn to love to learn.” I thought that quote was, firstly, so clever and sweet, and secondly such a good lesson. Looking back at it even now, I think it was such an important lesson to learn so early in my life. There should always be a thirst for knowledge and learning and an open-mindedness in learning many different things. It’s definitely been important in my life because it helps me to remember to have a spark for life and all of the things it has to offer. I can get caught up in the day-to-day tasks that go on, but it’s good to take a step back and make sure I’m opening my mind to what others can teach me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a Content Creator & Digital Producer (based in Miami, of course). My full-time day job is equally as cool as my side-hustle of Content Creation. I’m a Web Experience Producer for Dropbox, I just started this new job about 3 months ago and I’m really loving it.
As for my creative flow, I create and post content mainly on Instagram or for sponsored brands, sometimes. I’m just a lover of all aspects of life + style + travel with a heavy focus on maximalism in fashion, thrifting and food/drink in Miami. It’s more of a passion that sometimes gives me extra cash on the side, but I don’t consider it a part-time job or anything like that. I like to keep it as a creative outlet and hobby that makes me happy.
I also love selling my thrifted finds on Depop, so you can find me there and steal my style as well!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Just recently, I had to pivot in my career. I had to leave a job that I LOVED for logistic reasons. When I think about different aspects of my life, careers specifically, I like to think of 2-3 non-negotiable that the job needs to meet in order for me to feel satisfied. One of them, at this point, is being fully remote. I work in Tech, so most jobs are remote (especially post-pandemic) and it’s just as productive (if not more) to work remotely. At my last job, I was going to have to relocate which wasn’t in the books for me. So I had to leave that job which I really adored but I was able to find my current job at Dropbox (which is now a ‘virtual-first’ company), and it’s really meeting all my priorities. I’ve noticed that in life, maybe just mine, I’m often pushed into growing and changing, even if I didn’t want it or plan for it, but it always works out.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Personally, I just love having a creative outlet to put my thoughts and ideas out. I love editing videos so IG Reels has been therapeutic for me, honestly! It allows me to use that creative and thoughtful part of my brain and I just love the process of filming content, editing, posting. It also is really rewarding to connect with people on social media who enjoy content that I post and just building a small community or even make new friends because of it.
