We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yashica Topalovic a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yashica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Thus far, I’d have to say working with Moving Forward Events & partnering with the Sister League of San Diego on educating women on mental health. As well as hosting a clothing drive & styling services for the woman at the shelter.. Yes, the glitz & glamour behind photo shoots, runways & music videos are beyond anything I’ve ever dreamt of. But the true magic behind what I do is in designing & styling for the woman next door. The woman who carries all that weight on her shoulders, the single mother working 2 jobs, the one who seems lost & just needs a friend! My motivation lies there with them by their side. It is an absolute honor to be able to assist her on her journey to a positive transformation!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My lineage plays an enormous part of the business & creative side of my brand, Frances Taylor! All of the designs, garments & styles represent confidence, resilience, elegance & poise. At Frances Taylor we offer multiple services such as custom garment designs, wardrobe editing, personal style transformations, garment rentals, photoshoot/editorial styling, closet organization, personal shopping & more!
There are many reasons why you should hire a fashion designer & wardrobe stylist. All for the same reason you hire an inspector when you’re ready to purchase a home or hire a financial advisor to assist you & your family on your finances. Just like those professionals, we have the keen eye for spotting something unique within you & your wardrobe! Introducing you, our client to the finer fabrics in life!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Many books of icons such as Cleopatra, Lucille Ball & Elizabeth Taylor come to mind but for this particular question I’d like to talk about UNBOUND: A WOMAN’S GUIDE TO POWER By Kasia Urbaniak. In this case, mastering your own power is where the glamour rises! You becoming that icon that you so admired. “Desire is our link to what we care about, what we’re willing to fight for.”-Kasia Urbaniak This is a guide not a book that you read once and forget all about it, you read it take notes & implement them in your daily routine. As women we voluntarily & involuntarily play many roles in our lives so why not master it with also getting what we desire! As the author also stated “Our culture is obsessed with what men do, and who women are.”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Great question, there are 3 huge rewarding aspects about being a fashion designer, wardrobe stylist & studio/boutique owner. First & foremost, being able to assist women/youth shelters, non profits & my community with donations & charities. The 2nd has to be being able to at times take my daughter to work with me, being able to show her the creative & business side of it all at a very young age. And the 3rd has to be my active & proactive mind. My wheels are always turning. During the day I can design a very elegant mermaid style gown then in the middle of the night my thoughts will wake me with another design that is vibrant with a hint of rock glam!
