We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yarimar Rosario a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yarimar, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
A few months after i decided to start my photography business i started posting about it on my social media accounts and my post got a lot of attention from friend’s family but also strangers. My very first client messaged me and asked if i could do pictures for her friends baby boy who was turning one year old i right away agreed to do it and i booked her photoshoot that was my first time actually taking pictures of anyone else that wasn’t a family member or a friend at first i was nervous because i never done pictures for anyone else before and i wanted to do a good job but after i got done i was so happy and excited i right away knew i wanted to keep working hard and continue my photography business because capturing peoples special moments made me happy once i delivered their pictures they told me how great the pictures looked and how happy they were and that right there gave me more motivation to keep going and to continue to do something i really loved doing

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Yarimar rosario and i have been a photographer for 2 years now . I decided to go into the photography business after my friend amanda hays did a halloween photoshoot for me and my family. I seen her amazing work and how well she worked with my children and thought to myself i want to do this i want to capture people’s greatest memories and beautiful moments while also capturing those special moments in my life . I do portrait photography, birthdays, maternity photoshoots, graduations , weddings, and more . I am most proud of being able to jump out of my comfort zone and starting a hobby that ive loved in the past but never thought to make it a career. Once i started i knew there was no looking back as it grew to be something ive became very passionate for. I mainly do work outside and in nature to capture the natural beauty of my customers and giving me the freedom of unlimited background options for my clients.
The best part is making a connection with my clients and watching them grow throughout our sessions. Seeing families grow, new beginnings, and yearly celebrations.
I hope that my future clients will know that I am passionate about my work and will treat their sessions as I would my own family and will capture the best moments together while having fun..

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by posting about my business i like posting what i can do what i want to do and future business ideas that i want to try and recreate. I also try to do budget friendly sessions to be able to help others on a budget get good affordable pictures and that also helps me build my audience. If you are just starting out by posting on Social Media, don’t get discouraged by trolls or negative comments. Use that as ammunition. If people are complaining about your pricing just know that they are not your target audience. Keep posting, keep sharing, keep on going even if you get no likes. Someone will see it and share it and will be happy to refer you to family and friends.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is that i have the freedom to create as i please. and the work that i do will be cherished for years to come. Creating happy memories for clients and possibly helping them through difficult times.
