Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yandry Mastromihalis . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Yandry , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
If I could go back in time I would have started my business much sooner. I’ve had a wide range of jobs between non-profits, education and corporate. But I never fit in well… I was always too outspoken, had too many “new ideas” and could not play by the “office politics.” I always felt like my skills were underutilized and that I had so much untapped potential. I was so frustrated with bureaucracy and felt like there was a better and more efficient way of doing things. I noticed how most employers were afraid of firing bad employees and would rather turn a blind eye.
I finally saw my chance when covid started, for the first time the real estate licensing class was offered virtually. I decided to take the leap and take the classes after work. After getting licensed, I decided to continue working my 9-5 until I could build a client base. From the beginning people that knew me and trusted me started reaching out. After my first year of working both my full time job and real estate part time I was able to quit my 9-5 job and go full time in my Real Estate business. For the first time in my life I was happy in my career! I could finally be my own boss and be as innovative as I wanted!
Yandry , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was working for a non-profit as a housing counselor. I helped individuals with credit, budgeting, down payment assistance and guidance through the home buying process. A lot of my clients would come to me with complaints about their realtor and I was shocked with the way they were treated. I decided if I wanted to provide my clients the best experience I had to get my license. So mid pandemic, for the first time real estate classes were being offered online, I saw this as my opportunity! For 3 months I worked then went to school and studied every day to get my license. My first year I worked full time and did real estate part time. At the end of my first year I decided to go full time in real estate and still offer consulting to my clients that were not ready to buy. Now I help my clients qualify for a mortgage and find their dream home. Clients appreciate that I’m real with them. I don’t tell them what to do, I educate them to make the best decisions that work for their family. I’m proud to have helped my clients buy when they thought it was never possible. For one of my clients I was able to get 50K in down payment assistance. This assistance made the difference in him affording a home. It brings me happiness to help others in this special way! This year I joined eXp realty and it has helped me take my business to the next level! I have an international platform to serve my clients at a higher level.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being myself, being honest and vulnerable. People want to work with a real human, they want to know you care, they want to know you have their best interest at heart, and they have to trust you. Also, when I say I’m going to do something I do it and that consistency and follow through is something that is lacking in our industry. Everyone wants your business, but they never follow up, or they promise and under deliver.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started my social media by just sharing tips on personal finance. My goal is to bring value even if the person is not interested in my services. It’s about building the relationship with people to help them, not just finding the next sale. Now I share more live videos showing homes, teaching classes, sharing experience, touring new businesses. My clients love the funny videos I create that show the struggles of real estate life. I find humor is key to staying sane.
