We were lucky to catch up with Yancy Perez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yancy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
A meaningful project I’ve worked on recently was a TV pilot I co created with Jazzy Hawley. The TV show is called ‘Edge of the Lot’ and it is such a special show. We shot in Jazzy Hawley’s hometown Mariposa, California. The show follows the town of ‘Mayfield’ inspired by Mariposa and all of the high schoolers in it. Inspired by the comedy styles of Seth Rogen and Tina Fey it is a comedic series with real moments of life lessons through your teenage years.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been in this industry for 17 years now, doing a ton of Theatre as a child and teenager I fell in love with Film and TV when I worked on my first television set at 14 years old. I grew up watching movies at the AMC on 42nd street (Times Square) every weekend during my childhood. By the time I graduated high school I’ve had the honor of performing on several Broadway stages, as well as performing musical numbers for the Mayor. I created a Production Company ‘Orion Dreams Entertainment’ and have produced several productions, most recently ‘Edge of the Lot’ a comedic new series.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
The main misunderstanding between non-creatives and creatives is how valuable time is. Of course time is a commodity that is valued and appreciated by everyone. But a creative really values the time and effort that is put into their craft or project with the possibility of not gaining much after the project is completed.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I aspire to create art that displays my faith in Jesus and can translate to the human experience we all share with one another. I want the art I create to help others understand that they are not alone in the experiences they are having.
