We recently connected with Yancia Clay and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yancia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My Hero is my brother Lamar Hughes who passed away on September 5, 2010 he was just 16 years old the reason I call him a hero is because he has help me believe that I can and will do great things for my future he believed in me and made me feel like I was just too good for certain things even if you have to live in a touch community til this day his life has a big impact on my future he is the reason I get up and find excitement in the littlest things like going to the garden, being involved in the community going to meetings being on the board for O.N.E Organization one of the oldest organizations there is in Nashville Tennessee I’m apart of that or helping giving back to the community with Youth Changes Organization he had such a big heart and would do anything for his friends and family I watched him take care of his family at a young age so I’ve always wanted to do just that I feel like the community is my family as well not just my kids anything I can do in the community I find excitement in doing just that I always say it’s a honor to be his sister with such little time I got to spend with him he showed me so much he showed me the true meaning of just living an that life isn’t really just about you it’s about making the world a better place starting with yourself first.. my brother would bring me gifts everyday I remember he brought me my first camera it was green and very nice touch screen with nice features I didn’t have to ask him for anything it’s like he knew what I liked and what I needed later I love technology I love cameras I love phones computers etc. a few years ago I brought my very own cannon camera and decided to make a YouTube channel that took off with my very first video of young buck a Nashville Artist that video ended up getting 17 thousand views just by me going out to a restaurant and he sat right beside me and gave my podcast a shout out I was shock to se my YouTube channel grow so fast but who would’ve thought a Camera was all I needed that’s why my brother is my hero he knew me best still knows me best and I’m grateful and honored to be his sister
Yancia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m 29 Years old I’m from Nashville of course I’ve been an Entrepreneur since I was 13 years old and started attending a business camp at David Lipscomb that provided a young entrepreneurs the privilege to learn the basics of starting a business I was 13 years old selling candles and won Miss CEO at the end of the camp from that day forward I started selling bracelets making a lot of money but I wasn’t disciplined enough I used my money to do other things and knowing the first thing to being and entrepreneur is that you have to invest back into the business on down the line I created a Entrepreneur group with 300 members teaching them the basics and also teaching them why and how your business can fail or prosper then I started a podcast called gangsta sweet talk that I’ve been having for 2years I think people like how mutli talented I am that I can do any any everything I think that’s where my following comes in how I can do things and still be a mother I believe that’s what they watch most about me I’m proud of myself because no matter how much life throws at me I still keep going U don’t complain I can’t complain I just keep going I’m real about who I am I’m not better than nobody but I’m me I’m changing every days right before my eyes it’s beautiful
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn to be consistent and to also know that family and friends are not the main target audience in your Business many times I felt like I was failing because family and friends wasn’t supportive but than I had to learn that it’s 50 states and over a billion people in the world so I decided to keep going and never give up
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative was meeting new people and collaborating with the biggest people having someone I could actually call on that knew more than me and could give me better advice than I could give myself
