We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yana Anders. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yana below.
Hi Yana, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As the owner of Style Fix Studio and a certified personal stylist in Boston, MA, I am passionate about helping women and men of all ages and body types discover their unique style. My goal is to ensure that my clients not only look their best but also feel truly confident and comfortable in their clothing.
I work closely with each client to develop a wardrobe that aligns with their personal and professional aspirations, transforming the image they project and the message it conveys about them. By focusing on dressing strategically for their body type, I highlight their best features, enhance their natural attributes, and minimize any areas of concern, creating a confident and polished look tailored just for their body type, color palette, lifestyle and budget.
This mission has personal significance for me. Growing up in the Soviet Union, where consumer goods were scarce due to a socialist planned economy, I learned how to create clothing from my grandmother, a self-taught dressmaker, and my mother, an adept knitter. They both worked, my grandmother as an administrator and my mother as a financial analyst in the oil industry. Yet, in their free time, they crafted their own clothing, ensuring they always appeared chic and elegant.
My mother and my grandmother taught me to create garments from scratch that were not only stylish but also perfectly suited to my body type and personality. I remember the confidence that came with wearing clothes that truly suited me. This early education in fashion and self-expression taught me to be resourceful and creative, inspiring me to help others discover the joy of dressing well.
When I immigrated from Russia to the United States 25 years ago, I was amazed by the abundance of beautiful, stylish clothing available at reasonable prices in the US stores. However, I noticed that many women I met were unsure of how to dress for their body type or choose the right color palette. This was surprising to me, as I had seen my mother create stunning outfits from very limited resources that made her look like a movie star.
I believe that understanding one’s body and learning how to dress for it can help women look fabulous and feel secure. My goal is to share this knowledge and passion with my clients, helping them embrace their unique style that matches their body shape and feel confident in their appearance.
Yana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Before launching Style Fix Studio, I worked many years as a digital marketing specialist in corporate settings. Throughout my life, I’ve often found myself admiring the beauty in other women, thinking, “If only they knew how stunning they could look with just a few tweaks!” Whether it was swapping out a skirt, changing the color of a blouse, or pairing an outfit with different shoes and a new hairstyle, I saw the potential for transformation.
My friends often turned to me for style advice, affectionately calling me their “stylist,” which inspired me to turn my passion into a profession.
With my background in digital marketing, I was able to establish Style Fix Studio, create a website StyleFixStudio.com, and promote my services through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
I offer a variety of services, including a Closet Audit, where I visit clients’ homes to assess their wardrobes, helping them decide what to keep, donate, or discard. Many of my clients find themselves staring at overflowing closets, yet still feel like they have nothing to wear. I identify gaps, provide detailed styling recommendations, and develop personalized styling plans for them.
I also offer personal shopping and styling services, both online and in-person at my studio in Watertown, MA. I handpick new pieces for my clients, curate complete outfits myself, and invite them to try on selections at my studio, ensuring they only purchase what they truly love.
When I provide online styling services, I start by conducting a virtual consultation with my clients and reviewing the photos they share with me. Based on this information, I curate personalized recommendations and email them links to clothing items that suit their style and needs. I also include detailed guidance on how to mix and match these pieces to create stunning outfits that reflect their unique personality.
This approach saves clients time and money, preventing unnecessary purchases and ensuring their wardrobe is filled with flattering styles, cuts, and colors.
Additionally, I encourage clients to experiment with new styles and provide advice on personal grooming.
One of my standout services is the Total Image Makeover, where I collaborate with a hairstylist, makeup artist, and photographer to offer clients a complete transformation. This service provides a fresh, personalized look from head to toe, culminating in a professional photoshoot to capture their new image.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What has truly helped me build a strong reputation in my market is the personalized attention I give to each of my clients. Most of them are women juggling multiple roles—mothers, daughters, wives, single professionals, and corporate employees. Their lives are incredibly busy, leaving little time for self-care or pondering over styling choices. Whether it’s deciding what to wear for a date, an important corporate meeting, a child’s school concert, a casual get-together with friends, cocktails with girlfriends, a wedding, or their own birthday party, they often need someone to take the reins.
That’s where I come in. With my skills, knowledge, and experience, I handle everything from shopping to assembling complete outfits with shoes and accessories, ensuring they look effortlessly stunning and feel like a million bucks. My reputation is built on understanding how to dress for each woman’s unique body shape and selecting the perfect colors that complement her complexion, hair and eye color.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I maintain a strong connection with my clients through my blog, Instagram, and Facebook, where I regularly share styling recommendations, fashion advice, personal styling tips, color combination suggestions, and insights into the latest fashion trends.
Many of my clients enjoy reading my blog on StyleFixStudio.com and follow me on Instagram, where I post photos of clients who have graciously allowed me to share their transformations, along with detailed outfit suggestions crafted from start to finish.
A significant number of my clients are repeat customers who return to refresh their summer or winter wardrobes. They often submit questions on my website, which I address in my blog, providing personalized advice and solutions.
Additionally, I host a live workshop once a month, advertised on Eventbrite, where I delve into styling recommendations, demonstrate outfit creation, and engage with participants by answering their questions in real-time. This interactive platform allows me to connect with my audience on a deeper level and share my passion for fashion and styling.
