Yan Ling, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Have you ever felt a burning desire to achieve something more in life? For me, that moment came after a scooter accident introduced me to Reiki healing! The strain on my neck and shoulders caused intense pain whenever I turned my head, impacting my mood, concentration and productivity. However, after just one treatment from a Reiki Master, I experienced relief and regained mobility, feeling deeply relaxed, and a sense of inner peace.
My transformative experience and extensive background in qigong, meditation, and yoga opened my eyes to the incredible value of Reiki practice. Witnessing its fast healing results and tranquil effects, I was motivated to become a certified Reiki Master and share this holistic modality with others. It’s a meaningful journey that allows me to use Reiki for personal growth and offer its benefits to countless professionals and caregivers on their path to well-being, growth and impact.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a Reiki Master with 20 years of experience in healing modalities, I am passionate about empowering professionals on a transformative journey of self-discovery, rejuvenation and impact through Reiki practice. Being a working mom and VP in finance, I understand the challenges of balancing responsibilities and family care. Seeing Reiki’s ability to alleviate anxiety and pain for my mom during the pandemic while keeping me calm, I’m eager to inspire others by sharing this practice.
Since the coronavirus pandemic, stress has become a widespread issue for employees and companies impacting workers’ health and job performance. To address this, I collaborate with organizations and non-profits, conducting Reiki therapeutic workshops for employees. Through my clinical experience, participants have reported remarkable benefits including reduced stress and anxiety, increased energy, improved sleep and concentration, and a profound sense of inner peace. The proceeds from these workshops are donated to various non-profits working towards promoting health, wellness, economic development, and access to clean drinking water in Africa.
Besides teaching Reiki courses and workshops, I drew on my decades of holistic experience and created the online 5-Minute Stress Buster kit, a proven and tested tool to ditch stress, back to focus and productivity quickly. This kit is ideal for busy individuals as in just 5 to 10 minutes they will experience immediate benefits of a boost, focus, calmness and motivation.
Reiki (in Japanese means universal consciousness and vital life force), is a safe and hands-on spiritual practice that restores balance. It can be done remotely, without physical contact, making it accessible even when you’re apart. While the exact mechanism is still unknown, scientists observe measurable physiological responses to Reiki, such as improved breathing, heart rate, and heart rate variability. This balancing practice supports well-being, optimizes immune function, and enhances the body’s natural healing abilities. Once trained as a Reiki level 1 practitioner, you can provide treatments for yourself, your family, and even your pets.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I unlearned that my past doesn’t define me or limit my potential. Previously, I struggled with commitment due to childhood trauma. However, meeting my qigong master helped me break free from negative thoughts and narrow perspectives. I faced my wounds, forgave, and realized that forgiveness doesn’t mean accepting mistreatment or devaluing my pain. It’s a way to release myself from self-sabotage. Instead of dwelt in the past and limitations, I used adversity as an opportunity to strengthen my faith and confidence in fulfilling my purpose. I began to see more possibilities and expansiveness in life. I found love and became a mother of a loving daughter who makes me smile every day. As a Reiki practitioner and teacher, I help others heal from trauma, empowering them to confidently navigate their own journeys, grow in all aspects of life, and access their full potential.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Training and knowledge alone aren’t enough for success. Despite having access to all the training in the world, some people still struggle to achieve their goals. The missing piece lies within our inner sense and the ability to master our minds, with our will power. Success is achieved by being aware of and reflecting on our self-imposed barriers and limitations, and by taking control of our minds where intuition, inspiration, and revelation arise. Over the past 20 years, with the guidance of expert coaches and masters, I’ve used the following 7-Step to Attainment to reach my goals and succeed in both my professional and personal endeavors:
1. Set a specific goal: Clearly define what your goal is, such as a target profit, number of clients, or workshops. Visualize yourself already achieving the goal, and with your will power, maintain confidence, patience, and openness to find solutions along the way. Keeping your focus on the goal is crucial for success.
2. Establish a timeline, block dedicated time on your calendar, and break it down into smaller increments (daily, weekly, and monthly) for actionable steps. This helps you stay organized and maintain steady progress.
3. Create milestones: Divide your goal into small, achievable milestones. Be as specific as possible when defining these milestones. For instance, if aiming to impact 96 people with Reiki practice in a year, target eight people per month or two people per week. This makes your goal more manageable and provides a clear roadmap.
4. Accountability and support: Find an accountability partner or a support system that can hold you accountable for taking steps towards your goal. Collaborate and cultivate partnerships to increase your odds of success. Having someone who supports and challenges you can greatly enhance your progress.
5. Review and adjust: Regularly review progress, analyze what’s not working, and use self-analysis, self-discipline, and introspection to remove limitations, attachments, and learn from mistakes. This allows you to stay on track and overcome obstacles.
6. Celebrate wins: Celebrate both small and big victories along the way. Acknowledging your achievements helps boost your confidence and motivation. Additionally, keeping track of your successes builds a positive track record, reinforcing your belief in your ability to achieve your goals.
7. Repeat success: Repeat the success cycle by setting new goals and applying lessons learned from previous achievements. Continuously striving for improvement and growth will lead to ongoing success in your professional and personal life.
Consistent execution of this approach helps me thrive in my career and Reiki teaching. By following these steps and maintaining a focused mindset with all your heart and soul, you too can maximize your chances of achieving your goals in any field and experiencing long-term success.
