We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yajaira Martinez Navarro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yajaira below.
Yajaira, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Following my time in a research lab amidst the pandemic and experiencing burnout in the medical industry, I recognized the need to return to a fulfilling pursuit. It was then that I discovered my love for mixology and bar management, leading me to envision a mobile bar business. The transition from concept to reality proved to be an exciting, and immensely challenging journey.
The next steps involved careful planning and resource gathering. I spent countless hours researching the market, understanding the competition, and identifying gaps that I could fill with my mixology and fine dining expertise. I started experimenting with cocktail recipes, perfecting my craft, and receiving feedback from friends and family.
The first concrete step was establishing a business plan. I outlined my overall goals, and unique selling proposition. This plan served as a roadmap for my business and helped me stay focused.
Next, I had to navigate the logistical aspects of starting a business with zero business knowledge. This included registering my business, obtaining necessary licenses and permits, setting up a dedicated workspace for mixology experiments, and sourcing quality ingredients and tools.
Marketing is and was very confusing since there’s so many routes, but I knew it was crucial in gaining visibility and attracting clients. I created social media pages to showcase my services, share cocktail recipes, and engage with potential customers and then made a website. I took any opportunity that came my way whether it was collaborating with local businesses, participating in events, and offering promotions helped me reach a wider audience.
Building a network within the hospitality industry was also essential to providing my services. I attended classes, worked in different catering companies, got a business mentor, established connections and worked alongside with event planners, restaurant owners, and suppliers . These relationships not only provided opportunities for collaboration. As the business grew, I focused on enhancing the customer experience. I sought feedback from clients, refined my services based on their preferences, and prioritized excellent customer service to build loyalty and trust.
Looking back, the journey from idea to execution was a mix of passion, hard work, and perseverance. Each day, hour, month, and year is filled with learning experiences, challenges, and moments of success. Staying dedicated to my vision, continuously improving my skills, and adapting to market demands, I was able to launch my mobile bar services and turn my passion into a small business.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I decided to hire a business mentor for guidance when I felt stuck and also joined industry-related groups for networking.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for my services has been a combination of referrals and digital marketing efforts. Satisfied clients often recommend my services to their friends and colleagues, which has helped me build a strong network of loyal customers.
