We recently connected with Xinhui Ma and have shared our conversation below.
Xinhui, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I have just finished a comic that is made in a zine format. The project is called The Endless Summer, and it’s a story about a rebellious tween girl called Revolteen who’s always on roller skates. Revolteen didn’t do any homework for the entirety of summer instead she went out with her two best friends, to escape the consequences they decided to runway but only to find the town runs in a circle, and they are all going to turn into school supplies tomorrow.
The heart of the story is about growing up and not fitting in, it’s a subject that’s very personal to me, and is still very relevant to my life right now, even beyond school. As an artist going against the grain or trying to fit in and hop on the current thing, being an adult it’s not so black and white anymore, the choice between the 2 right now is more in the grey and finding a balance. This is what I’m struggling with, and I hope I can try to find an answer like Revolteen did in the end.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
