Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Xin Yi Wu. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Xin Yi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always enjoyed doing art since I was young, Doodling and sketching on my assignments and test papers during classes was a way to pass the time. I wished to become an artist but I never dared to dream of becoming a professional due to the nature of being born in a conventional Asian family. I recall it was before high school when I watched a Korean movie called Along with the Gods and I was intrigued by the VFX and aesthetics. It wasn’t particularly related to what I want to pursue right now and it opened up my eyes to the entertainment industry. There was also an artwork done by a Japanese artist Akizone and I came across it on Instagram. It wasn’t the subject matter of the artwork that was intriguing, It was the fact that an artist can create worlds within a piece of work and how space can be formed with pure visuals. Both of these sparks did not have much impact on the way I draw stylistically, but they are important in paving the way for me to discover what I wish to do in the future. I want to be able to create worlds through designs, and crafting space within my work. They led me to discover the different artistic careers one can have and the possibilities one artist can have. My journey of self-discovery has not ended but the goal of pursuing a creative career is one that I slowly built and formed alongside all the things I have experienced.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an aspiring concept designer/illustrator who wishes to work in the entertainment, and motion graphics industry. I’m passionate about designing and solving design problems. My work varies widely, and I’m highly adaptable to different styles and mediums. I do not limit myself to a certain way of creating art, I am daring in trying out different approaches and my way of working has allowed me to learn a variety of skills I equipped myself with experiences across many artistic endeavors. I can work on intricate designs to stylized and very simplistic graphic styles. My diverse art education and my exposure to the art world made me very open and appreciative of any artistic expression. I have experience working in multiple fields, including entertainment, motion graphics, illustration, and graphic design. My specialization lies in designing backgrounds and environments. I love drawing architecture, and cityscapes. I’ve worked on animated film production from the early conceptual stages to post-production. I’ve also developed game assets and created trailers for various projects. I would like to work as a concept designer in the entertainment industry, I am open to themed entertainment, games, and animation that allows me to design the world around characters and clients. My interest and experience in graphic design led to my discovery of motion graphics which is a perfect ground for me to pursue commercial work and solve design problems.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being raised in a conventional Chinese family, I was taught to never give up in the face of great difficulties. As a competitive child, I always make the toughest choices and compete against others to become the best. I want to achieve the best I can in my life and keep searching for my purpose and passion. I have certain goals in life which I want to achieve and that requires me to constantly improve. I want to achieve the best that I can and see how far I can go with my potential. Moreover, I receive a lot of support from my friends and family. Not only do I wish to make them proud but I also want to bring us together to greater heights.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I wish to discover and explore my true potential. Not only in artistic skills but also in other skills that are required in the creative journey as well. In terms of art, I wish to become a multi-skilled artist who is capable of working in different industries. I have a strong desire to learn what I am interested in and I am confident that I will be able to push my limits to become professional in the areas I am looking to work in. I am also determined to discover my artistic vision and what I can provide for others and the rest of the world with my art. I also want to be able to provide artistic services to clients and create a more conducive working environment for artists. Being able to work with great talents and sparking new creativity, creating things that have never been done before is always exciting.
