We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ximena Quesnell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ximena , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
From working at a nail salon that claimed to maintain the highest standards for cleanliness to seeing nail salons all over that are unsanitary and don’t prioritize nail health, it became apparent creating an environment that keeps me and my clients health a priority would be done best independently. Using nail polishes that are free from 21 of the most toxic chemicals found in polishes and being able to create intricate nail art is where I found my niche. Continuing education and prioritizing my clients natural nail health not only helped me stand out from others it allowed me to build better relationships with my clients. Many of my clients have come into my suite with nails that have been severely mistreated and being able to help bring their nails back to life over time instills confidence in both of us.

Ximena , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The beauty industry has been a passion of mine from a young age, from doing my makeup, to dying my hair and painting my nails every other day there was always something pertaining to beauty taking place in my world. Entering the professional nail industry expanded my drive for building relationships and businesses allowing me to meet fellow creatives and express myself freely. I aim to provide a a safe space for everyone, as a queer woman it isn’t always easy to find a space that is comfortable and non-judgmental. Offering a slim selection of services like nail art, builder gel, and gel-x allows me to hone in, grow my skills and become the best I can at each service. I am most proud of the long lasting relationships I’ve built. I am greatly appreciative of the people that choose to spend their hard earned money on my small business. Not only do nails add an accessory to your everyday life they create space for community and conversation. I aim to offer services you want to tell your friends about.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective and consistent strategy for growing my clientele since opening my own business has been word of mouth! Having loyal friends that supported me from the beginning and their consistency has brought in a great community of people that feels safe and exciting to work with.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Offering fewer services allowed me to hone in on my skills and knowledge in my industry. Consistency in posting and loyal clients telling others about my work has played a huge part in my growth this last year, allowing me to do even more exciting nail art.
