We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Xica Bee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Xica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Taking a risk
When you have to believe in yourself 110%. You can’t allow nothing or no one to take you off of your Focus and your stride. I was working in the fitness business for a lifetime fitness Bally’s total fitness curves for women, and I noticed that the one thing that these big corporations cared about was the end number whether or not a person showed up to appointment came to work out, really worked on being the best them. It was making sure that that monthly payment hit the account. Remember, I used to get written up at a certain job not to name which one for calling and contacting clients to see if they knew they were still being charged and they haven’t been in in a while and what Have them come back. And that’s what I decided to step on faith and walk away from making $6000 a month with a company with benefits. To starting my own company and not having benefits to have to get and pay for benefits to not making 6000 right away to maybe making $100 but I didn’t step out and take that risk I would not be as successful as I am today.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So my actual background is theater arts and dance performance and kinesiology, which is the study of the human body.
I’ve always wanted to be able to help people be the best them so I’ve always found myself in the fitness world and Self Care and wellness. Whether it is teaching dance classes at vertical Joe’s fitness 99 ways to twerk contortion class, flexibility, and stretch class to teaching Corrective therapy self-care, stretching or doing corrective exercise I found myself working with people and for the people. Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Friend me it’s every time I go to a location whether it’s for my son my grandmother myself I’m always marketing. I believe that we are walking billboards of your business especially when working for yourself so I’m always wearing my XicaBeeFit gear. I’m always wearing XtayFrosty apparel. I’ve always had my business cards. I’m always communicating and talking to people.. Even when I’m on Set filming, I’m making sure that I’m wearing things that represent my brand as well. And I’m always willing to do some cross promotion and bartering with other small businesses are even large businesses like myself. You cannot be afraid to step out again and take the risk
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being resilience is something that everyone can have, but I am thankful I am one to have been able to take the journey. I remember when I was working for a company and I gave them my all and the company found bankrupt and I had to explain to 100 employees why this particular Fitness company filed bankrupt and where they was going to get their last paycheck from then when I knew that I had to step out and persevere and find a way to make a way out of no way with the strength of God and just being resilient, I was able to start my own business and I’ve been working for myself ever since I couldn’t see myself working at 9 t05 for someone else and they having the options to have my life in their hands . When people say that I am strong and tough, I say no I just have resilience. It’s the difference I have been faced with so many different things in my life. The one thing that I stumbled on the most was when I lost my first love to gun violence, and we had to raise money for his burial by selling food at my college and car washes. Then a few years later one of my best friends passed and we had to do the same thing for her And then this year September 18 my grandfather passed and I had to help my grandmother put together his service to the obituary and I just thank God for all those moments and times that I had to go through things that my journey it prepared me to be honest here right now just getting out of the ICU This and I thank God for my strength and my healing and my abundance to be a testimony of my true resilience to my journey. This is just the beginning.
