We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Xenny Dreamr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xenny below.
Xenny, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I would say that I am very happy to be an artist/creative! Growing up I’ve had to work 9-5 and I do not miss that at all lol. I want to have a career in something I am passionate about and see longevity in. Many late nights and early mornings but I’d rather have my music be the reason. Music is something that has been a passion of mine since I was 5 years old. In high school I would be the one to literally go in and edit all the music using a program called audacity and if anyone knows that program then you know how annoying that was lol. I didn’t mind doing it though.
When it comes to the emotions of it all I just have to be patient with myself. It is very easy to lose focus or not have the same confidence as you did when you first started. At the end of the day you have to remind yourself that nothing is really easy especially when it comes to what you love and this music industry. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, you have to be strong-minded, not afraid to make mistakes, and have people have opinions about your work. I know for me I’m constantly reminding myself to keep going but it’s always very reassuring when supporters/fans remind me as well and send their kind words.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Xenny Dreamr. I am a recording artist and DJ from the DMV area based in Los Angeles, California. I’ve always had a passion for music and just the entertainment world in general since I was very young. Once I got to middle school I started to get more and more into music. I remember I would get so excited to get home from school just to go download music and learn all the words! I learned to play a few instruments as well.
I started writing my own music in high school and once I got to college I realized I really want to pursue music as a career! I started in a group at first with two of my close friends at the time. We would just record and make music all day. Trying to figure out our sound. Fast forward we eventually split up and went solo. I took a couple years just to develop my sound and fully understand who I am as an artist. My favorite thing to do is performing. Getting on that stage is really my happy place. I love that I get to connect with people in person! We laugh, we connect, we rage! It just a good fucking time! lol
My sound has a more chill vibe. Vibes you can play early mornings, last nights, when you’re just doing daily things around the house, pregame, honestly my music is for all occasions! lol If I had to compare it to someone I would say Wiz Khalifa and Larry June.
Ive been able to share stages with amazing talent and even some of my favorite artists! I am so blessed for the things I have accomplished thus far in this industry! I love what I do! I have my own collective/label called Dreamr House. I want Dreamr House to help other creatives expand and get that developmental piece. I think it’s important that we as artists really focus on the artist development part of it. It’s something that I believe is a lack of in today’s industry.
Things I can say I am proud of is that I never gave up. I’ve had to tell myself plenty of time to push through and believe in myself! Stay the course and stay focused! I really just want to motivate others to chase their dreams!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I learn I had to unlearn I would have to say is to stop seeking validation from my peers.
I remember when I first started making music I would literally send my music to ALL my friends lol. Just to get opinions, if its good or bad etc. As I have progressed I realized how that actually would hold me back alittle. I became hesitate on releasing music, would only put music out they liked, having moments of doubt when they didn’t like a song.
I had to understand that my peers aren’t my core “audience” or target. And also that I don’t make music for them lol ya know? I do this not only for others to relate to and have an outlet but I do this for me as well. I had to understand that people aren’t going to like every song I write.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Most rewarding is just the fact that you get to help convey emotion and just be myself. I get to tell my story and give people something to feel and relate to so they don’t feel alone. I know for myself growing up I kind of always felt like second best or just not heard thoroughly. I sometimes still feel misunderstood and I know there are many others that feel that way too. I’ve always been like the chill, goofy, “cool”l person but very shy so the fact that I now have a voice and I’m being heard is an amazing feeling. Also, becoming an artist helped me learn how to really express myself so that’s rewarding, the fact that I’ve found a way to get that out in the open, rather I’m happy, sad, mad, hurt, feeling like it’s time to turn up, etc. I will always be grateful that I’ve found this outlet for myself.
