Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Xavier Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Xavier, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I believe everything in life is a risk, whether it is big or small. We take a risk getting out of the bed each morning not knowing it could be our last time doing so. My greatest risk came from moving out of my home town in North Carolina to Tampa, Florida to become a full time artist. At the time I knew no one in Tampa except for my dad and my step mom and left with nothing but my car, some clothes, and large amount of hope that I would some day fulfill my dreams. I was always shy as a kid but knew that I was different and very talented when it came to art. so starting in a new city was a huge fear but nonetheless I knew that nothing comes to you by just waiting for it, you have to go and grab it. It took me about 4 months of living here to actually meet someone with the same type of vision as me and ever since then they have been one of my greatest supporters/friends. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to express myself and become the artist I am today.. There were many times during those months that I wondered if I had done the right thing but the moment I was able to touch a stage and perform I never looked back and it has catapulted me into the Tampa art community where I am well known and respected for my craft in more ways than I could ever dream of. I believe heavily in manifesting your reality by speaking what you dream of in to existence. I can honestly say that everything I have ever spoke into life has come into fruition and being an artist has been on of the greatest examples of that. I can not wait to see what my future holds and what other dreams I can manifest but I know from here the sky is no longer a limit, it’s what’s beyond it

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am an Ace of Trades. Where people would call themselves a “Jack of trades” meaning they are someone who does many things. I call myself an Ace because I not only do a bunch of things, I am good and attempt to be the best at everything I do, and what is an Ace but on of the best cards in the deck? I was always very artistic my father was also a musician and singer and he would always sing to me and that’s where my love of music started. I was also an avid reader and was always either found reading, writing, or sitting by a radio growing up. My craft came alive when my brother passed away when I was 12 years old. He suffered a tragic death and I was never one to verbally express how I felt about it but got my chance when my 7th grade English teacher assigned us to write a poem. It was my first poem I ever attempted to write and and wrote a poem about how I missed my brother but disguised it as a poem about how I missed a friend. The next few days my teacher told me how much she loved the poem and she submitted it into a national contest. I never thought before that moment my thoughts could touch someone or be good enough to win a contest and it inspired to me to write more. Soon after, people around the school were reading my poetry and asking me to write poems for them to give to their friends and family and some were even paying me for it. That moment in time was the spark to the flame that ignited my love for helping people through artistic expression. That is what I continue to do today. I am a musical performer, I play guitar, sing, write, and produce music in order to inspire others to follow their dreams and be and love their true selves. Lately my greatest business venture has been curating and djing art events to help people in my area have a platform to fully express themselves without worry of ridicule or constraints. My love for art and not fame or money sets me apart because I try to create an experience for the artist and the audience that they can remember without personally gaining anything from it. I remember a time where I didn’t have the means the opportunity or the means to showcase my talents and I never want to be that person that turns someone away, because you never know who that person may become.
I am mostly proud of the growth of my audience and fanbase through my shows and that I am able to bring my ideas to different venues around the country. Mainly because I have helped so many artists and venues who have never thrown shows throw and continue to throw successful events with or without me. I strive in helping artist express themselves the best way they possibly can and know that anything is possible when it comes to art and that it literally fuels the world, despite what they may be told.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
There are many ways that society can support creatives and maintain a thriving creative ecosystem. Mainly be highlighting creativity over the dollar. True creativity has gotten away from us due to the advancement of technology, it is so easy to take art and make a dollar from it that now everyone is moving away from taking the time to be creative and expressing themselves. If society would take the time to shine a light on being original it wouldn’t be a dying concept. People of power should Invest and teach the art of taking time to create more than it being a way to get rich quick.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew the presence of social media and actually using it to my advantage earlier in my career. A lot of my influences were artists from the 60’s-90’s where social media wasn’t a thing and I always felt that my talent would speak for its self and I didn’t necessarily need the internet. I was also very camera shy so I did not like to record and post myself. If I knew how how much the internet would play a role in the entertainment industry today I would have utilized it a lot more when I first started performing and showcasing my talents.
