Xavier, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
In January of 2020, I began writing a book about my life story. My decision to write it was motivated by a desire to reach people everywhere and inspire others to allow their dreams and ideas to become a reality, no matter what your past or current situation looks like. Growing up, I was a quiet child and faced many challenges, addictions and struggles. Some which I faced silently in the dark. I felt as though I were a complete failure as a person, but God changed my life. As I became older, I found a love for poetry, and incorporated some poems I’ve written, corresponding with the subject of each chapter. I built up the courage to share my testimony with the world, and named my book “The Testimony”. I may not change the world, but I hope to spark the minds of those who will.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, but currently live near Nashville. Some of my hobbies are video games, shooting, photography and writing. I got into writing in high school, somewhat out of nowhere. One of my classes did a talent show as a test grade and I had no idea what I was going to do. I randomly came up with the thought of writing a poem and decided to go with it and hope to just get a passing grade. Surprisingly, the entire class loved it and my teacher gave me an A+. The outcome of the situation made me curious, and I began to explore writing. Afterwards, I continued to write poetry and began exploring other forms of writing. Which brought me to the idea to write my book. I believe what sets me apart is my willingness to show the parts of my story that I felt ashamed or embarrassed about. I made an extra effort to be honest to allow people to see that you don’t have to wear a mask and hide who you are. And that no matter what your life looks like, you can make your dreams and visions come to life. Also, my incorporation of poetry, I feel, added more to enjoy as a reader. I’m proud of myself for stepping out in faith and gaining the courage to not only write the book, but finish it and get it published to, one day, change someone’s life.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
In the past few years, I’ve began discovering how much useful information is on Youtube. For years, I went to Youtube for entertainment, and never bothered to do research. Over the past couple years, I’ve grown as a cook, learned about photography, making beats and more.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal in my creativity is to find ways to encourage others and inspire them to follow their dreams.
