We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Xavier Julius. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xavier below.
Xavier, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The moment I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally was after I hosted my very first fashion show. During that time the hit show “My Sweet 16” was out and of course like anyone else I was inspired and wanted to have one of my own! So, I planned a fashion show THEMED birthday party however to my surprise the way I put everything together and the way the public perceived the show they thought it was an actual fashion show. The event was a phenomenal turnout considering I had limited resources and assistance. After & during the process of the show people would tell me how much they appreciate me for giving them the chance and pushing them to the point to model, design or create in any way! So, it was a little voice in my head that said, “this is what you’re supposed to do”. I felt accomplished and blessed to even be that person in someone’s story of greatness. Since that first show which was in 2013 models who were apart has modeled in countless of shows and even the designers, they have grown to do many phenomenal things as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Xavier “Xay” Julius I am a 26-year-old Serial Entrepreneur, I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama. Reason I like to consider myself a “serial” entrepreneur is because currently I actively have my hands in several business ventures. However, as of now I am the Alabama Prince of the Iconic KiKi House of Juicy Couture where my category is runway. In addition to that I do specialize in event planning, I have coordinated over 10 Fashion events rather that is a runway show, fashion show, or mixer. I’m also the former personal/executive assistant and current wardrobe stylist for Evelyn Braxton which is truly one of my proudest moments to date aside from my current fulltime job. My fulltime job is in the HIV prevention sector where I am a community health worker/Event planner. I am very passionate about this work because this is something I did take an interest in during my senior year of high school, and I even then was given the opportunity to be the face of a new campaign powered by Alabama Department of Public Health which was another amazing experience. With my current career venture, I am able to not only get back to doing what I enjoy I also get to continue to provide opportunity and help those individuals who may not have the knowledge about HIV/STD’s get the knowledge and resources that they need for little to no cost!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the freedom to be yourself with no rules or boundaries set by others. I’ve experienced far too many times where I have worked for establishments ran by horrible people with very inconsiderate policies and rules. Anything I create or do I like to consider everyone’s experience not just my own most companies think the opposite way.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your audience can be tricky and it’s truly something I am still trying to master but what has gotten me this far is simply engaging, posting, commenting and of course ensuring whatever content posted is of quality. I have seen many people lose their accounts because they try to buy likes & followers my best advice on that is to not do it because it’s noticeable and also it’s not worth it. Also don’t follow accounts that’s not going to engage in your content I always do constant “pulse check ins” to see who’s still active.
