We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Xavier Figueroa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Xavier, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective method that we have found are referrals from our clients and business friends. We went from 100% paid advertising to 80% word of mouth referrals in just 2.5 years. We are so honored whenever our new clients tell us that we came highly recommended. I feel that we treat our clients with patience and respect. We never want them to feel that they are just a transaction to us. The major contribution to our success in building our client base has been networking.
I currently belong to eight different networking groups. Some of these groups meet weekly and others meet monthly. These groups have been great at keeping me busy. I am able to keep a full schedule between scheduled jobs and networking events. It’s a tough juggling act, but I have been able to see the change that networking has brought to my business.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
This business has tested my resilience in many ways. I did not think starting a business would be this difficult. I thought that since I liked selling stuff, that a business would not be that hard to grow. This has been a journey of perseverance, sweat, and tears! Maegan and I have completed jobs together that would have made other people quit. We have dealt with the heat of summer and smells of rotten food in hoarded homes. We have dealt with active roach infestations and mice jumping out from behind furniture. These cleanouts that we do can put us in hazardous conditions. We have learned how to protect ourselves by using respirators and protective suits. We once removed four full truckloads from a one bedroom apartment. That’s 72 cubic yards of trash and approximately six tons of trash. There were 20 bags of rotten food removed from the refrigerator. I am proud of how we have been able to help families. Our hard work brings instant relief to families. We love what we do.
