We were lucky to catch up with Xavier Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Xavier, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned how to rap and song write from listening to artist like Rick Ross who is good at painting a picture with his words you visualize it in your head, Lil Wayne taught me more about punchlines and charisma and swag that you need to have to keep your listeners engaged, PARTYNEXTDOOR is a very good songwriter capturing lots of emotion while still being able to rap/sing his sound is very melodic and dark I found that to be very creative. There is many more artist but those three for sure taught me a lot of things just by listening to them. I really don’t think I could have done anything to speed up my learning process everyone has a different way of learning and I took my time with my process because I really wanted to learn how to put words together to tell a story the right way. learning how to take real life situations and put them into words has been very essential some people just make up a lot bars with metaphors and punchlines that they forget how to tell you about their life I think I do a good job of both to add that balance to the song. wanting to be great takes time so you have a choice to study the greats or just go off what you know i wanted to maximize my skill set so i studied the ones i looked up to and thought were great so I wouldn’t say their was an obstacle that stood in my way but i knew the importance of taking my time to learn a skill.
Xavier, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Xavier Clark is an artist and songwriter based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Being a Hip-Hop artist who taps into Alternative and R&B sounds, his music has an electric and nostalgic feel. Clark’s melodic flows and ability to change his tone compliments his boisterous production choices. As a lyricist, Xavier is as energetic as he is bold, unafraid to be introspective. His signature wordplay and aggressive, yet smooth rapping voice causes him to stand out among other emcees. Musically, Clark is inspired by Travis Scott, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Lil Wayne and more. Over the years, he’s collaborated with artists such as Will Cherry, Mathaius Young, Surf, Drayco McCoy, and Krew$ to make some of his most well known cuts. Xavier has been featured on Elevator, Lyrical Lemonade, and Swidlife. The topics of his music range from love to heartbreaks, fashion, life and confidence. There’s no limit to Xavier’s creativity. Though he hails from the Midwest, his sound is timeless and region-less, as he draws inspiration from different regions and eras to make his own style. There’s a lot Xavier has to offer to push the culture forward.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The best reward for me is effecting someone’s life in a positive way. I know what music does for me rather its uplifting, motivational, or just simply getting me through the day. I hope to do the same with my music for others so when people reach out and tell me my music has inspired them or has given them motivation I feel like that’s the best reward that could come from being an artist knowing that the art you created has impacted someone’s life.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal for me is to reach as many people as possible and to connect with people all over the world. Whatever comes from that ill take it. Music has introduced me to so many people already and I wanna keep pushing forward with the relationships I’ve built. Of course for any musician we want to be signed as an artist or the opportunity to work with a certain artist so that’s always the goal but what drives me is becoming better as a songwriter and learning new and experience new things.
