We recently connected with Xavier Alvarado and have shared our conversation below.
Xavier , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project that i am invested in is my life journey in Artist. Producing and curating art collections is a field that iv’e been boldly persuing for some time now. Art has shaped and designed my life as i’ve created a workspace and business that allows my passion to flourish as opportunity to connect and inspire individuals throughout all avenues of life. I’ve learned that art is deeply rooted in my lifestyle as it continues to educate myself about what it means to be fulfilled in the course of life.
Xavier , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started painting at the age of 6 as I watched my father’s sketch drawings together. My artist development started when I began sketching comics as a kid because of my love for superheros and it gradually progressed into street and modern fine art. I’ve never studied art professionally, or been formally trained. Acrylic is heavily seen throughout my collection as well as chalk and pastels. Also, I’ve constructed murals in the Downtown and East Austin section of the city. Ive done Live painting at Darylen Mason Studio and Republic Square allowed me to display my unique aesthetic and creative expression toward a vast group of inspired socialites. My most recent work at Distribution Hall has been portraits depicting important people in my life and their history and impact. As my art continues to progress, it will cover expansive mediums including furniture, pottery, and tapestry.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Understanding that my journey is specific to myself helped give me patience and clarity when it comes to my progression as an artist. As a naturally competitive person, “Comparison is the thief of joy” as Theodore Roosevelt stated. Staying focus on becoming the best version of myself is essential to presenting elegant collection to future audiences. Approaching art projects from a pure and love vantage point compared to a competitive point of view have shown me a better expression of my body of work. Whether it’s a group of two or an hundred, appreciation of the product and what I represent means the most to me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is reliving the essence of my inner child every time I create. The process of being stuck on an ideal and brainstorming out of the resistance gives me joy every time. Art gives me an avenue to learn and expand my understanding of so many aspects of life while being a vessel for new ideas and collaborations. From the canvases that I paint to the storytelling that I script, act, and produce, there is no ceiling on my expression.
