We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Xander Nesbitt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xander below.
Xander, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was in high school and I came across this website called fiverr that my mother put me on. I started earning a lot of money there, and that made me want to start my own business.
Beforehand, I didn’t know I could make money by drawing. But I guess I never paid it any mind and noticed that the whole world runs off of artwork whether it’s design or animation.
So since then, I’ve been on my grind as an Illustrator, digital creator, and animator.
Xander, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m currently 21 years old attending college, and a fun fact about me is I love transformers.
I got into this industry the moment I realized I can make money with my talent.
At first I just drew, but then I realized I don’t just like drawing, drawing is a form of creating. And I love bringing my ideas to real life. This is when I started getting into building websites and designing logos. I started taking my business much more seriously when I realized how much money I could make by providing them the services they needed.
What sets me apart from others is I make my services much more cheaper than my competitors while offering services with the same if not better quality. I also make my clients feel like they’re talking to an actual person rather than a business.
I’m most proud of where I am today vs where I used to be. I do what most people my age wish they could. I make money by doing the thing I love which is to create
The main things I want my potential clients to know about my work is that it’s not just work. Time, effort, & love goes into everything I make.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Before I had to depend on others to market my services for me. This is because I didn’t know how to market. Now that I know how to, my business has been better than ever!
Now marketing just depends on me, and the strength of my portfolio.
How did you build your audience on social media?
About 4 or 5 years ago when I was in high school, I just started my business. I was simply posting my artwork, building up my social media presence.
I started getting attention from influencers and other artists which helped build my following. With my social media presence grown, it served as a temporary portfolio.
This is what showed potential clients what I can do and what got me commissions.
My advice to any aspiring artists is to build your portfolio online and get family and friends to market your services. This will be the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey!
