Xander, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I founded Wurk Services after I fell in love with my wife Anna Marie. Anna and I met when we were undergrads at Miami of Ohio. The moment we made contact I knew she was the woman of my future. It was then I decided to get to work. I decided against reenrolling after my freshman year and began couch surfing attempting to come up with a plan. Wurk Services was founded out of sheer necessity; I had to eat. The concept was simple, people need things done and I am capable of doing things. We were profitable from day one. One of our first gigs was unique. A lady was pregnant and could not clean her cat litter box. To make matters worse, the cat was on chemotherapy. I was promised hazard pay but never received it. Nevertheless, it taught me there was a demand for odd jobs. And to value the good customers. From there, I began building a brand, hiring, and getting the word out about our services. I had a website built and once our customers got to talking we exploded. Now offering hundreds of services all throughout Chicago and the suburbs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Opportunity cost is very real. Especially in this day in age where the world pulls us in all directions. There’s only so much time in the day. We humans all have the same problem; we only have 86,40o seconds in a day. We solve this issue by taking tasks off the plates of homeowners so they can devote their time to things they care about issues like garage door repair.

The other day I was in a tough spot. Seemingly everything had been going wrong. On top of all the stress, my car decided to quit on me. I was in the middle of the city near Goose Island during a busy hour. At this time, I was being yelled at for blocking the road, drivers behind me were honking and flicking me off. Then all of a sudden a truck pulls up and a young man gets out and immediately heads underneath my hood. “what seems to be the issue” he asked. Not knowing much about cars, I called my car guy who took a look the day prior and he explained the issue. The young man then pulled a few sensors and my car started up. I was on my way. Before leaving, I had noticed he had a magnet on his truck advertising electric services. I said let me get your number i run a company and we always need electric work he was typing his number in, and his name came up on my phone. “How do you already have my number?” he asked. I told him I run Wurk Services and his eyes lit up. ‘You mean Wurk he exclaimed” looking at me with much energy in his eyes. I tried to remember but I didn’t. Turns out when I was going through the ringer my wonderful Wife Anna had been running Wurk and had hired him for a couple of jobs not long ago. I was then very excited knowing she had got the right guy. This man who had no idea who I was came to help me without any promise of pay or additional opportunity. That is the spirit of Wurk Services we are trying to cultivate here.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Without cash, we have bootstrapped from the get-go. We have been entirely self-funded since the start. Everything we do is with cash flow in mind.,
