Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Xae King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Xae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One major risk for me that I have taken in life where is my first show. I started off struggling, trying to find a place to perform at. Trying to figure out how it all works. I was looking through Eventbrite for different open mics but, that led to nowhere. I didn’t have a manager or agent to land shows for me, I didn’t know too many other artist that actually knew themselves how to get started, and on top of it all, I was still working crazy hours at my job. I just couldn’t find the right time or place. So, one day I thought to myself, “why can’t I just do it myself.” So, with all the money that I had left at the time. I took the risk of throwing my own show. It was the first of many to come, “R&B Showcase.” Knowing the risk of pouring all my money into it, not having a team, borrowing my family and friends time, scouting for artist, not ever performing professionally on a stage before and doing everything knowing that if I failed it would set me so far back…. I went for it. I absolutely went for it and it exceeded expectations. It was a huge success! It opened doors for new opportunities, it grew my fan base, gave me new connections, gave me the confidence and confirmation that I am where I am supposed to be. One risk…. Can change everything. I will be one of the greatest because of the first risk. I will absolutely succeed.

Xae, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Xae { Zay } and I am an R&B Artist from Long Beach, CA.
I started my journey in the industry seriously after high school. I actually started dancing, acting, modeling. Etc…
I used to seeing here in there, but never took it seriously. Reason being was because dancing was actually my first love. I studied Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, usher, and many more from the age of 4. So, singing just came hand and hand with it.
After high school, I knew I wanted to pursue my music career because I was already living part of my dream by being in music videos, (ex. Walk it talk it- Migos ft. Drake, Gucci Gang- Lil pump, Raegaeton Lento- CNCO Ft. Little Mix etc). I wanted to show that I am the whole package. I knew that I wasn’t meant to be in the background. Also, singing actually runs through my veins. My parents can sing, my grandparents had a singing group called Spice of Ice, my uncle vocally trained a few singers as well, so it was a no brainer for me. Friends I’ve had growing up would always tell me to sing and use all my talents. I truly believe I have them for a reason. Not only does my talent set me apart from others but, my determination, my drive, my focus, my hard work, my family and friends all do as well. It’s because of all of these factors in my life, I will be who I was born to be.
I want my fans to know that, my music is made for them to use for expression. I write about things that we all feel and want to say. I write about things that we’ve been through. I give my all, I give my best, and I will always pour all my energy into my music for you. I’m not where I’m at in life, without the people I’ve came across on my journey. I appreciate my fans and followers for listening to my expressions and enjoying my music.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal for my creative journey is to be successful. I don’t wanna waste my talents that I was given. I want to show my friends and family the appreciation that they deserve. They all believe in me and I will always take care of them for that. The goal is to bring them success, elevate them with me, and repay the love & support that they give me 10xs over. I will be one of the best to ever do it and they will be right there with me. I work hard for my family, for my friends, for people I come across on my journey, for my fans, and I will not ever let them down. The goal is to be the most successful.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can best support artist by actually sharing them if you believe in them. Plenty of times people will love your music but keep it to themselves or may assume that other people are sharing it for you. You absolutely will help the process and journey by sharing it wherever you are. Listen to the lyrics, if they resonate with you then show somebody. If the song makes you feel good, go show somebody. If you really want to show support, show somebody. Play it at work, play it at the gym, at the park, at a family function, and even play it while you’re Uber driving. Help a dream and a goal become reality.
