We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wynter AKA Wynter w/a “Y” Avery. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wynter AKA Wynter w/a “Y” below.
Alright, Wynter AKA Wynter w/a “Y” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I started out at the age of 7 being a Radio Personality. I looked up to my older cousin Shaniah who was doing radio. I use to go to the radio station with her, I would sit back, watch her & take notes in my head. I was so happy the 1st time I went on air. I didn’t know how to work the equipment at the time but talking on the mic was no problem for me. As I got older, I learned how to operate the equipment. I actually am my own engineer for my radio show.
I started Hosting at the age of 8. When I was 1st asked to be a host, I had no idea exactly what a host did. My mom was the one who helped me with my hosting skills.
I would look at different radio personalities & host on YouTube. I loved listening to the different radio personalities on the radio too. Doing my own research has helped me to speed up my learning process. Also, practicing & acting classes help me out a lot.
In order to be a Radio Personality or Host you must be able to entertain an audience, you can’t be shy, you must have a strong voice, you must be able to get along with others, you must be on time & leave a great impression of you.
Some obstacles that stood in my way were people did not take me serious because of my age. They thought that if they trained me that it would be a waste of time & I would quit. As I got older & continued to work adults started taking me more serious. Now, 8 years later, I’m still hosting & you can catch me on the 1st & 3rd Monday’s at 7pm on “Wynter’s World Radio” at Hits 92.3 www.hits923atlanta.com
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am 15 years old & known as Wynter w/a “Y”. I am a radio personality, host, actress, motivational speaker & artist. I got into the industry by people noticing my talents & telling my mom that she should put me in artist development classes. I started taking acting classes, singing lessons & dance class. I paid attention, I was focused, on time, I practiced at home often & was determined to do my best!
I would love to have you as a guest on my radio show. I can interview you, play & promote your music. I can help promote your products or business, I am also excited to Host your next birthday party, event, school function & more!
What sets me apart from other people is I am the youngest Radio Personality at Hits 92.3 & I am my own engineer. I love working with adults but I am here to especially help promote our youth. I’m excited about working with independent artist, youth entrepreneurs, youth leaders, youth athletes & more.
I am proud of myself for being able to donate to different non profit organizations throughout the year. I’m also proud that I am continuing to do what I love to do year after year & I never gave up. I look forward to learning more, growing & I hope to one day interview some of my favorite radio personalities & hosts.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion people can do a lot to support artists. We should all be supporting our family & friends. We need to support different events, concerts or shows they may have. Always buy their merchandise to help promote them. Purchasing tickets to their events will definitely show support. Another way is word of mouth. Tell people great things about the artists so they will also want to support. Follow them on social media & share their status. You could even play their songs or share their business on your social media site. Everyone loves support. We most surely appreciate support from people we know as well as strangers. So whenever you can, SHOW SUPPORT, even to people you don’t know.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of my goals is to be a Radio Personality on mainstream radio. I remember going to an internet radio station & watching Shaniah when I was 6. I would admire her & want to do it too. At the age of 7, I finally got my own show. At the time I had 2 Dj’s but now I am not only a radio personality, I co produce my show & I am my own engineer. I look up to so many Radio personalities because they all are different, yet unique in their own way. I am able to learn from all of them. As a Radio personality, I will uplift, inspire & motivate people across the world.
