We were lucky to catch up with Wyatt Bell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Wyatt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Becoming an Artist full time was the biggest Risks I have taken. It meant I had to fully commit to my craft and to myself to be able to make it. Im still learning how to better myself and become more successful everyday, it is one of the hardest tasks to balance both mentally and in physical aspects. Working for yourself is most definitely the most complicated job to have and its hard to realize that until your fully in it… But the reward of knowing you determine your outcome in life is priceless and absolutely WORTH THE RISK.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a visual Artist, I paint on anything from canvas to murals and also do some graphic design. I started painting when I was in High school and never stopped. It as a way for me to express ideas and concepts that I couldn’t get out in words. Once I understood how to manipulate mediums to accurately depict my surreal/abstract thoughts I had such a sense of satisfaction to see these pieces come to life. I love having conversations with my collectors about what the pieces mean to them and what I was feeling or thinking while creating them. Art allows people to travel to different points in time and life through the provocation of new thoughts.
Something I am is extremely proud of is my variety of collectors. I truly have some of the most unique and inspiring humans who have collected my work. Those who own my works of art have given me the opportunity to succeed and become better as time goes on. My collectors often have incredible and meaningful concepts that challenge my creative abilities and in return that allows me to keep growing my skill set. Having a custom piece of art come together for a client that captures their image and exceeds expectations is the best feeling in the world.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
In my experience, the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been my work itself! When I sell a piece to a client and they hang it in their space, it is a billboard/advertisement for my work! Which leads to someone new seeing that work of art, resonating with it, and then reaching out to me to inquire about what it is that I create. I would say 90% of my clients were referred to me because someone they know owns my artwork. This goes for my private collectors and also businesses that I work with!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I was starting out I thought I knew it all, It wasn’t until I learned I knew nothing that I really started to understand life. I had to learn how to learn, how to soak in knowledge and experience and use it to sculpt my mind and skills. When you think you know it all theres not much room to improve. There is so much value in being able to step back and be teachable. I wont go into too much detail but the turning point for me on this issue happened when I was 19 and was living as if I was on top of everything and could avoid consequences. Long story short, those consequences came at me with full force and completely woke me up. It most definitely changed m for the better and I have only grown since then.
