We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wunnam Ahmed. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wunnam below.
Hi Wunnam, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful takes a lot of hard work, resilience, and passion. I started my business five years ago out of something I love the most that has been a part of my success. It’s not enough to be successful only for the money because when things get ruff, you will not have something to call on. With all the obstacles, having a great support system around you is very important. They keep you motivated and help you to stay on the path you are trying to create. One of the most crucial things to do is to gain knowledge. Knowledge is the key to becoming an expert at what you are doing. As much as you can learn, getting help from others who are more knowledgeable in something to help you can make a big difference. The people you meet and the lessons you learn will ultimately help you take your goals to where you want them to be. I wouldn’t have gained all my accomplishments without experiencing all the lessons I did.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi, my name is Wunnam Ahmed, but everybody calls me Maryam. I was born and raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I am a child of immigrants that were born and raised in Ghana. Since I was a little kid, I have always been a hustler. I have sold everything from phone cases to bracelets. In middle school, I sold yarn bracelets to my classmates, inspiring me to start my jewelry business. My love for generosity made my business a way for me to give to the world. I opened my jewelry business in June 2017 called Girls Jewelry 101. I was into making baked clay charms, but gradually, my business evolved. In 2019, I decided to revamp my business with a unique name that conveyed meaning and character. Ultimately, it led me to choose the name Seini Seidu Fashions. The business name originated from my mother’s father, Seidu Seini. As a teacher in Tamale, Ghana, he believed education was crucial to every child’s development for their future. More than anything, he always lived by what he said while trying to mold the youth. My grandfather’s passing in February 2021 taught me that my business was bigger than myself.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A resource that has impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking is podcasts. They are some of the best ways to gain knowledge on the go. You can listen to them in the car, office, on a walk, or just being out and about. As a student trying to be a business owner, I’m always somewhere, so this has been a great tool to gain more knowledge in my craft. One podcast I listen to is entitled ‘Earn Your Leisure.’ They teach you how to invest your money to be financially stable. Although I still have time before I get into investing, their podcast has become a great listen to gain knowledge from other businessmen and women who have already made it. Two guys who’ve really been my go-to recently are WLRDINVSN clothing company. These guys started from nothing to build an empire known around the world. They remind me that anything is possible with some hard work and belief.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Seini Seidu Fashions prides itself on creating the most unique and authentic products unlike any on the market. We want customers to feel like their pieces of jewelry and apparel are unique to them as it represents them and their style. Our products are all manufactured in-house, which sets us apart from other jewelry businesses. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is if you can not find somebody to do it, do it yourself. I have had countless times when new projects almost fell apart because a pivotal part of it relied on somebody else. But if you want to get something done, you need to always have a Plan A and a Plan B in place in case something goes wrong.
