Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to WRDFRNDZ. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, WRDFRNDZ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Everything we set out to do within our industry of music and entertainment comes from a real place of creative expression. We could easily create music that sounds like the industry standard with familiar pop chord progressions and mandatory autotune but that’s not our vibe. It’s not bad, what they do, but we do our own thing differently over here. We created our own sound called, “WRD-POP”, that combines our favorite styles of music such as R&B, Punk, Electronic, and Funk; a sound you would never hear on mainstream radio music.
We continue to push the boundaries of reality and fantasy with the visual look of our group as some of our members represent different species from different planets; Venus Vu Sen’ (drummer) a native of the Theatis Regio within the Aphrodite Terra located on the planet Venus and Beary Fuzz (guitarist) a native of the “Forest of Friends” located in a secret forest within the Manoa Falls west mountain in Honolulu that consists of animal hybrid creatures with backgrounds in creative arts.
Frankie Midnight, Miami FL, is the creator and music producer of WRDFRNDZ.
WRDFRNDZ is an attempt to retain our childhood “youthanism” amongst an industry that promotes the absence of innocence.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are an American Wrd-Pop music group composed of producer/ lead vocalist Frankie Midnight, guitarist Beary Fuzz, and drum programmer Venus Vu’ Sen. Associated members include Miami born poet Symone Titania and her sister, singer/songwriter Quiana Major.
Our music revolves around friendship from a young adult perspective; an attempt to retain friendship with those you’ve lost connection with. As we get older, we tend to become absorbed with adulthood, work, bills, college, etc. Through these journeys of adulthood, some of our friends may lose themselves and take the easy way out as so did one of Frankie’s childhood friends, Lloyd. The death of Lloyd made Frankie reobserve the idea of life with a deeper approach to his new music. Our debut self titled album, “WRDFRNDZ” is our proudest moment to date as Frankie worked extremely hard to go inside and channel all spectrums of color to create this new sound and visual style. The sound is musically different from Frankie’s previous two albums, “Love Stories” and “Look Up!” but retains Frankie’s originality in approach.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being different, original, and risky. It’s not easy to break the model that’s proven successful however, we believe that if we remain original and genuine, our audience will find us. It’s better that way because we know that our supporters are real and will ride or die for us in the long run. Our shows are nuts because we truly create a dope experience for our fans with every thought that goes into our stage design and presentation. The music thumps and the visuals are memorable. We communicate to our fans on a surface level as well as a subliminal level so that they really get our message. Come to one of our shows and you’ll clearly understand what we are about. Also, our music is so different yet familiar at the same time. You can feel the organic essence in our approach when you listen to our songs. It’s real, funky and fun.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Two books: “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein and “Faith is your Fortune” by Neville Goddard. “Where the Sidewalk Ends” retained our inner childhood which allowed us to have a pure foundation and “Faith is your Fortune” reinforced our faith in God and ourselves by teaching us to realize our inner desires and ideas in outward manifestations through faith and action. Both books shaped our imagination and reality which we carry over into our way of life through our work and creative outlets.
