We were lucky to catch up with Woo Monáe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Woo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
Honestly asking friends and family to help support is a hit or miss. It’s kinda upsetting when the people you love most don’t support you but then when you up they be the first ones with their hands out. Don’t let that discourage you through. Keeping asking, they answer will alway be no if you never ask. They might surprise you, and when you make it where you wanna be just remember the ones that help you. Support is free. Yes money helps too but honestly support is free if they are not able to give you money. I’ve always said it’s strangers that make you rich, not the people you know.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Woo Monáe, 24 and from Chicago. I stared modeling at a very young age. I was like 12 when I went to my first audition and they loved me. They loved everything about me. At that time though I really wasn’t ready to take it serious. I loved that they liked me and I wanted to be a model, I just didn’t care to start at that time for real. At that time I only wanted to be a content creator. I made a YouTube channel and all. I posted my lil video. I always tried some form of content creating but this is really the first time I tired to do modeling.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal as a model is to become a super model. I want to do runways. Be invited to every event a model is supposed to be at. I want to be in vogue and on vogue. I still have a long way to go but I’ve come so far that I will forever be grateful to God for all the opportunities that I had in such short time. I’m just getting started and already accomplished so much.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media moves sooo fast. It is so easy to get caught up in all the trends that’s going around. Just literally be you and be consistent with posting. The hardest part is starting but after that it gets easier. Another thing that helps when starting out on social is blocking your friends and family if that helps. I know a lot of people that won’t post because they’re too scared of what the people that know them might say.
