We recently connected with Won Jin Choi and have shared our conversation below.
Won Jin , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I picked up a camera years ago and always wanted to explore photography. One day I decided to take it seriously and started traveling and taking landscape photographs. I had a mentor who was in advertising and she showed me some basic skills and I took off from there. I studied hard, and learned mostly from trial and error. I didn’t have any support from friends or family and that was big obstacle for me. I overcame it by sharing my photographs on social media and a few photography clubs and received great feedback. This made me believe I had the talent to pursue photography for a living, so that is the choice I made and I’ve never looked back.

Won Jin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began photographing everyday things I saw in my daily routine. It sparked an emotion inside of me and it started my journey in photography.
From photography to layout design, I want my clients to have lasting memories from the services I provide, because those moments can never be replaced. I strive to give my clients a special session by finding out what makes them happy, then taking that information and transforming it into a story.
I shoot lifestyles and landscapes. I like to mix the two together to make a harmonious occasion for my clients. I’m not an average photographer who shoots a portrait in a studio. I like to bring my clients back to nature and create an event that will last a lifetime.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
To build a successful following, you need to build trust. When building my following on social media I made sure to interact with people daily. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the fastest way to build up your database. To be successful, don’t rely on just one platform, spread your brand across many platforms that cater to your creative style.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative photographer is being able to tell my story to viewers as I see it. It gives me freedom to explore lifestyles of different cultures and has made me more aware of my surroundings. I continue to see and learn more and more everyday and that is an adventure in itself.
