Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Women Moving Mountains Falisha, Maggie, Nicole & Angela. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Women Moving Mountains, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At our core, Women Moving Mountains is a nonprofit driven by connection — because we know what it feels like when connection is lost. Our founder, Falisha Rexford, said it best – “There is an epidemic of loneliness in women and if we can do something about it…we will”.
We’ve witnessed, firsthand, how isolation quietly creeps into people’s lives. It may look like the new mom struggling with postpartum depression, the woman transitioning careers and feeling unseen, or a military move that’s brought a woman to a new city away from family and friends. Too many women — across all life stages — are silently slipping through the cracks, feeling like they must carry their burdens alone.
Us four as founders… saw this epidemic of loneliness not as a symptom, but as a crisis that needed to be helped. In the process of supporting friends, family, and even strangers, we realized something profound: loneliness isn’t solved by mere social interaction — it’s solved by belonging. By building communities where women feel valued, heard, and understood.
Simultaneously rooted in our mission of community, all four co-founders are entrepreneurs and believe that another way women can fight these struggles is being able to follow their dreams and passions. This became a large portion of our mission because we have seen so clearly the challenges women face in pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams: the fear of failure, the lack of access to resources, the absence of networks that nurture both personal and professional growth. Many of us experienced these same barriers ourselves. We’ve had dreams we didn’t pursue because we didn’t think we belonged. And when we took that leap, the road was often lonely — until we found community.
Every program, event, and partnership we foster isn’t just about gathering people but about creating space and our mission is to create more than just successful entrepreneurs; it’s to cultivate a movement of empowered women who know that their dreams are valid and their contributions matter and where meaningful relationships can take root and flourish. We believe that when women connect — authentically and intentionally — they not only transform their own lives, but they also have the power to transform entire communities.

Women Moving Mountains, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At our heart, Women Moving Mountains is a nonprofit built by women, for women, with a mission to empower and connect those striving to transform their lives through entrepreneurship and community. We exist because we know that women are powerful creators — of businesses, opportunities, movements, and communities. Yet, too often, the challenges they face, from financial obstacles to societal expectations, can feel overwhelming. Our nonprofit is here to offer more than resources — we provide the encouragement, community, education and tools that women need to not just survive but thrive in all aspects of life!
Our founder, Falisha Rexford, saw the consistent struggle for women to build friendships and community through her years in the military and then following as she worked in a very ‘male dominated’ career. The idea for Women Moving Mountains was truly born out of loved experience ..and yet she caught herself trying to build the idea into something more… alone, as most women tend to do – and then finally realized she needed friends to help move these mountains! Which is where our co-founders came in! And now – just about a year in, we are growing this beautiful community more and more every day!
So now…every event, class, get together or discussion is designed to address the unique challenges women face in not just their entrepreneurial pursuits, but also the ones we face as mothers, sisters, daughters, wives and friends! Just an example of what some events we hosted have provided:
• Business Education & Mentorship: We connect aspiring and established entrepreneurs with industry experts, mentors, and peers. From business planning to marketing strategies, we equip women with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
• Networking & Community Events: We host meetups, workshops, and online events to foster education and networking with professionals and peers and create spaces where women feel seen, heard, and supported.
• Mental Health & Wellness Resources: We host walks, workouts and nutrition workshops, because we know so many things in life can take a toll on women’s mental and physical health.
• Access to Funding & Resources: Through partnerships and grants, we help women access the financial resources they need to launch and grow their ventures. We are less than a year old and we are giving out our first grants this November! Two to women owned business and one a self-improvement endeavor!
So, if there’s one thing, we can leave you with about Women Moving Mountains it’s this:
YOU ARE NOT ALONE and YOU DON’T HAVE TO BUILD ALONE. Whether you’re dreaming of starting a business, in the middle of scaling your venture, or just trying to figure out your next step…or honestly just need some dang friends…. we are here for you. We believe in the power of community, the strength of women, and the idea that when women rise, everyone rises with them.
We want you to know that your dream matters, and so do you. Our nonprofit is more than just a resource, it’s a community where women lift each other up and build together.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
For us, the best source of new members has TRULY been authentic relationships — those organic, word-of-mouth connections that come from the women we meet, serve and engage with. We’ve found that when women experience real support, encouragement, and meaningful growth through our events, meetups and educational classes… they naturally share their stories with others. Their voices are far more powerful than any marketing campaign we could design, and their recommendations have become the drive for our growing community. We are also so lucky that the four co-founders, individually as business owners, have been able to help grow and reach so many to have them join us on this journey!
Many of the women who join us hear about us from a friend, family member or co-worker who participated in one of our events or programs. It’s not just because they found business resources with us — it’s because they felt seen, supported, and connected in ways they hadn’t expected. That emotional connection drives them to spread the word, helping us build a community that’s rooted in trust and shared experiences.
Social media has obviously become another valuable tool for us, but not in the way you might think. Rather than focusing on follower counts or viral campaigns, we prioritize actual engagement — sharing stories, celebrating the successes of our members, and fostering conversations that reflect the values of our community. These interactions help us build trust and give potential members a glimpse into what it feels like to be part of our nonprofit family.
So, it really all does boil down to relationships…whether were forming them at events, on social media or just being out in the community!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When we first started our nonprofit, we had big dreams and even bigger expectations. We envisioned building a perfectly polished organization that would offer everything women entrepreneurs needed: mentorship programs, funding opportunities, wellness support, networking events, and we were going to build this nationwide community quickly! This was the DREAM and we we’re really shooting for the stars on it…
But here’s the hard truth we had to learn… perfection is not only impossible — it’s a roadblock to progress. We found ourselves caught in the trap of wanting to do everything at once, to serve every need, and to offer solutions to all problem women in our community were facing. And that lofty ambition started to weigh us down. We spent a lot of time trying to get things “just right” — developing and perfecting, while what we were actually doing was just second-guessing decisions.
In the process, we learned an essential lesson: if you wait until everything is perfect, you’ll never get started. That was the moment we realized we needed to shift our mindset from perfection to progress. We had to unlearn the idea that success meant executing flawless plans and instead embrace the messy, iterative process of learning as you go.
We began focusing on the small, meaningful steps that moved us forward. Rather than trying to build a perfect situation from day one, we just did what we felt would work, and as we moved along we let the community guide us with what was and wasn’t working and what THEY WANTED.
Letting go of perfection also helped us build trust within our community. We learned that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness. When we admitted that we didn’t have all the answers, it made room for others to join us in shaping solutions. Our members appreciated being part of the process, and they shared their insights, which made our offerings stronger and more aligned with real needs.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done, not because it’s perfect but because it’s purposeful. Our journey isn’t a straight line, and that’s okay. What matters is that we’re building something real, and we’re doing it together.
