Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Witt Rabon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Witt thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
Our first client came about after we developed our first linesheet and samples. We spent over a month reaching out to different apparel shops across the country without much luck. Finally we decided to approach a local vendor in the aurora mall called Notorious. They had us come by and showcase samples to them. After the meeting they agreed to take the brand on consignment and would throw us a launch party coinciding with a celebrity appearance. We were so happy I was almost in tears. We hyped up the launch and all of our friends showed up. We sold out the first night.
Witt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first got into the clothing industry about ten years ago very randomly. Was working in the concert/event industry as an event manager. Went out one night with a old friend from high school and he had just acquired the license to MusclePharm apparel. This was during the height of the UFC/MMA clothing era… remember Tap Out. I kept getting calls about an upcoming event I had planned and didn’t get to spend too much time with my friend. I went to apologize to him for ignoring him all night and being too busy. He then told me to quit my job and come work for him. Then proceeded to hand me the keys to his lambo. I didnt need too much convincing after that. From there he handed me a black card and said figure it out. After a few years of success the fad started to die out and myslef along with some other co-workers decided to start our own apparel brand but this time focused on cannabis and hip hop since we all were passionate about that and had the knowledge along with industry connections to build something on our own.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Always always always have integrity even when the world shows you it doesnt. Sharks are everywhere waiting to eat you alive. Luckily karma is real and she will always have your back.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Honestly our capital wasnt in the form of a monetary investment. Our capital came from knowledge, relationships and sweat. To this day we have never been able to raise funds due to the high risk nature of the clothing industry. We just made it work and kept flipping and flipping.
