Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Winnie Tin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Winnie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Teaday Tuesday was initially created to reconnect myself with tea and my culture with the mind of spreading the beauty of tea that is being overlooked. It is not an uncommon thing to hear tea is an “old people thing” or it’s just boring and blend. I once thought that way too until I went on exploring the options and understood that I was wrong about it! I have come to realize that the stereotypes spreading around tea is what made people think tea is boring. These stereotypical mindsets are one of many reasons that drive me to continue the work I do, to introduce the different aspects of tea that are being neglected, and the way to enjoy tea could be so much more creative and fun than you could think of!
Winnie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Teaday Tuesday is a platform, a medium, a bridge to connect and bring people together through expressing interests in tea. It primarily shares tea reviews and recipes on tea that are both single origins and blended. It is a place where all kinds of tea, perspective, and people are welcomed.
It has grown so much since Teaday Tuesday has founded back in 2021, where now provide services from creating reviews and recipes exclusively for brands to photographing tea products for websites.
My main creative service is providing tea reviews on not just describing the tea itself, but how it makes us feel. It is easy to just talk about how the tea taste like, but the emotional connection that brings to each individual could be so different and being able to host and drive discussions on my platform to share mutual feelings with my audience is what makes Teaday Tuesday so different. Not only it is showcasing the tea like a product, but make connection and bring people together.
One of my proudest creative services that I do is to create non-alcoholic tea mocktails. It is a game-changing experiment that requires tremendous creative time and work. Tea mixology is not something new. There’s boba, milk tea, tea cocktails, and numerous of ways to mix tea together. However, incorporating non-alcoholic spirits and other beverages that mimics a cocktail is still something very new and challenging. Due to my personal preference, I do not consume alcohol, and with non-alcoholic beverages are on the rise, I have taken the opportunity to try mixing tea and non-alcoholic spirits together and create my signature teatails. Working with non-alcoholic spirits and tea together are extremely difficult with both having their own characteristics based on what is being used, it takes a lot time and effort to find the perfect balance for a teatail to come live but being able to combine both worlds is an unique experience!
Despite all the difficulties, this is something that I am passionate about in changing the way people could consume tea. I want to bring tea to where we could see more often in social settings. Mornings don’t have to be coffee; nights out don’t have to be beers and shots, but to try the teatail that is as amazing as other alternatives to experience and explore the fun side of tea!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
As most of my work and reputation is built through social media, one of the very important values I found missing in the current market is the genuineness and honesty. As influencing culture grows within the past decades, we as consumers have seen misleading information that lead to unpleasant experience.
Being able to be transparent and honest about what comments I provide is a huge step to close the gap between the information being listed to actual consumer experience. Even though I am on the creator side with occasional paid partnership, that did not stop me from saying what my real thoughts are or terminate a collaboration after finding out that the products do not align with my values and standard.
Making real conversation and connection with audience is also a big part to build a trustworthy platform that feels genuine and sustainable. These interactions takes long period of time and effort to build but the real human connection is what built a great space.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The amount of planning and time being put into work is beyond imagination. Different niche will require different level of work. Drawing back to my own niche on tea drinking, most of my work takes time to learn on each tea and the background of it. Reviews takes days to tastes test with different temperature to brew, amount of water and leaves ratio and instruments being used. Recipe takes even longer because planning might not always be the result that I wish for. Because each tea is delicate, understanding the characteristics and flavor profile is the first step, then to decide the form of the tea, making decisions on what ingredients compliment the tea and how the overall drink tastes and looks like. All of these are prep work that needs to be done before starting to film the content. Editing, writing caption and taking the time to post and engaging conversations with audience are all part of the work.
These are some of the more seen work that goes into creating content. Because what I do is related to drinks, the time that it takes to get ingredients, prep, washing everything afterwards are also part of the behind the scene that most won’t think of. Creating content isn’t just what people see on screen, but all the work behind it!
