We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Winnie D. Talley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Winnie D. below.
Winnie D., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’ve all been there before where things are tight financially and we start asking ourselves in the small/simple joys like a cup of coffee is worth it. Have you had an experience like this and if so how did you think about this sort of spending?
When I started my journey, I didn’t understand the importance of an expense and investment analysis. If I wanted something, I got it with very little thought. I would take myself to a dinner and spa every other week. I would buy myself something nice weekly; rather I needed it or not.
My mentality was, I have worked all week, now it’s time to do something for myself. Which is a good way to think as it relates to loving on yourself, but its more to consider.
After several months into my journey, I realized that money is a gift that helps you pursue your purpose. It’s not a reward, it’s an asset that provides keys to locked doors. So, if you’re just giving your gift away for temporary pleasures or excitement during a lean and critical time in your journey, ultimately, you are losing opportunities to invest in your next.
Now that I am wiser, I look at my spending in two ways, expenses or investments. Asking myself, am I investing in my next or am I collecting another expense? Reflecting on those questions before I make a purchase, has helped me to make better spending decisions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I was told that to become successful in life you must complete high school, go to college, get a degree, land a high paying job, get married so that there’s multiple incomes in the household, and buy a home. That was the formula to a successful and meaningful life in America.
I did everything I was taught and still did not have a successful and meaningful life. I would go to a job I hated, and I got married and divorced twice. It wasn’t until I gave my life to God and allowed him to guide my steps, that my life became successful and meaningful.
I had to learn that my purpose was unique and tailored for me, and that my journey wasn’t going to look like anyone’s else’s. The formula for success that others had adopted, wasn’t going to work for me, because my passion and desires were not aligned with theirs.
The truth is, there is something deep down inside of each of us, and until we get it out and become confident that, that thing will provide unlimited success for us, we will continue to try to conform to a way or ideology that will only bring frustration and aggravation.
My life changed for the better when I submitted myself to my purpose and passion,
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Startng a business is not easy. I had applied for grants and loans and got nothing. I was able to start my business with hard work and dedication.
I dedicated myself to the success of my business and I used money from my job, to fund my business on my own. Here’s the thing, if you give God your yes, he will make provision for your vision. All you have to do is believe that he will come through, and he will.
Faith without work is dead, so do what you have to do to create the foundation and have faith that he will do the rest. That’s how I started my business.
