We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Windsor Dalton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Windsor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I always had an interest in the arts from a young age. Anything I could do to challenge my creative side sparked my interest like no other. I think that’s why I’m such a big halloween fan, because it was a socially acceptable time to dress up, decorate and get creative.
I always loved to decorate whether it be for a movie night, holidays, or even just to give my childhood room a new vibe. I would express and challenge myself this way.
Windsor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Obsessed with beautiful things. I was born and raised in North Carolina, the furniture capital of the world. I grew up with a do it yourself mother, who took on hundreds of design projects in our childhood homes. Design is a form of self expression. It’s your way of letting people know about you by just walking into your home.
In my personal style, I gravitate towards dark and earth tones. Mixing modern pieces into traditional form creates a perfect balance to me. It’s a representation of my life experiences, growing up in North Carolina, then moving to Boston, Los Angeles, and back again.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I feel like designing and expressing my creativity is just part of who I am. My goal is to make as many interesting and beautiful spaces that I can get my hands on.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
After posting on TikTok and Instagram for about two years with little engagement, I decided to try something new. I saw a video on TikTok of a designer walking through HomeGoods reviewing product and I thought, “hey I already do this every week, why not film it”. So I did, and that first video got over 1,000,000 views. Suddenly everything exploded and it gave me this pressure to continue posting. People were asking me questions, giving me prompts, and I just ran with it.
