We recently connected with Wilmo and have shared our conversation below.
Wilmo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
As a kid, and all throughout school, I was very shy and quiet. A lot of people looked at me as unconfident and that I wouldn’t do much in life, but I always had the vision in my head of doing big things. I really hate doing things I don’t care about, like school, which made me seem really lazy, but in reality when it comes to something I truly love and am passionate about, I work extremely hard to succeed in it. When I got out of high school, I realized I finally had the freedom to be and do what I wanted with life, so I found my own path. I did door to door sales to build my communications skills and confidence, which in turn gave me the confidence to take music seriously and put myself out into the world to be judged. I believe I was mischaracterized a lot in my life and I’m glad I finally have to ability to prove people wrong.

Wilmo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been super into music. As a kid, my parents were always playing music around the house, usually U2 and Green Day. So these bands really helped me develop an ear for music and songwriting. I then started developing my own music taste and started getting really into rap. Eminem and Lil Wayne we’re huge inspirations, and as I got into highschool I found chief keef. It’s funny because he’s one of my biggest inspirations and he’s so different from the music I make. I really just fell in love with how he was different from everyone else around him, and he was like “the one” in his community. It really inspired me to have that value as a person/artist as well. Other artists like speaker knockerz, lil Uzi, juice wrld, Ed Sheeran, and MGK were huge inspirations as well and really helped me craft my sound as I grew as an artist. I got to a turning point in life halfway through college because I realized I hated school and was never going to use my degree anyways. I always wanted to take music seriously, but at this point, never thought I could. I had the opportunity to do door to door sales and realized that was my opportunity to build confidence and learn skills that could help me build a music career, so i took it. After that, my whole mindset completely changed. I learned that I could succeed in anything if I put the work in and expected success, so at this point, I decided it was time to take music serious. Since then, my team and I have been consistently performing and dropping songs every month, and are expecting big things for us in 2024.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Before my first performance I was super scared to perform. It was something that had been holding me back for a long time. My manager got me a show and I acted excited, but in reality was hoping it would get canceled. Luckily, it did, but it lit a fire in me because I was mad at myself that I was that scared and had that mindset. Another show opportunity came up and I decided I needed to take control and not be scared, so I continually practiced and got more comfortable performing, and the day before the show I thought I needed to do something way out of my comfort zone, so I went to a park and played guitar and sang in front of random people. After that, I felt confident enough to perform the next day. The show came, I killed the performance, and it was the greatest feeling I’ve had in my life. That was the moment I knew I was made to be an artist.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Honestly, I wish I had better education and resources for mixing my music and producing my own instrumentals. I’ve always struggled with mixing because I overthink a lot, so if I had someone who was a trained engineer it would make my job as an artist so much easier.
