We recently connected with Willow Hughes and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Willow, thanks for joining us today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
I recently started my business with the primary goal of helping people. From the beginning, my aim has been to reach as many individuals as possible. Initially, I believed that focusing on marketing and increasing visibility was the key. However, I have come to realize that the most effective way to find the right clients or customers is through word of mouth. I have taken time to myself to reflect and am now ready to start a, “Rebuild”.
I made the decision to remove all prices from the website and transition to a donation-based model. This approach allows individuals to contribute based on their own appreciation and ability, making our services more accessible to a wider audience. Additionally, this model fosters a sense of community and reciprocity.
My belief is that wellness encompasses the body, mind, and spirit. I aspire to create a space where individuals can deeply connect with all three aspects of themselves, fostering a more profound sense of self-awareness and personal growth. Recognizing the interconnectedness of these dimensions is crucial, as focusing on only one or two can limit our potential for growth and change. By embracing all three areas, we can truly soar and become the best versions of ourselves.
As I embark on this journey, I remain committed to actively listening to the needs of my clients and creating a supportive and inclusive environment. My goal is to empower individuals to find wellness in all areas of their lives and facilitate their journey towards holistic well-being.
I am excited to make a positive impact and support individuals in their pursuit of wellness in body, mind, and spirit. Together, we can achieve meaningful transformations and create a community that thrives on peace, light, and love.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I initially established Holistic Hippie Vibes as an LLC but soon realized that not everyone could afford holistic services that insurance companies did not cover. As a result, I decided to transition the organization into a non-profit. My belief is that holistic wellness, which encompasses the body, mind, and spirit, should be accessible to all. Presently, we are providing services to clients on a donation basis. To generate additional income, we are planning to develop and sell media content, including videos focused on Mind, Body, and Spirit. We have collaborated with Erika Roderick of Simply Efitness to include physical fitness training aspect. Furthermore, we are excited to announce that our first retreat will take place in Lyons, Colorado, during the last weekend of July. Detailed information will be revealed on our website and social media platforms at 6 PM on December 24th, 2023.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently in the process of re-launching my organization as a non-profit, with a strong focus on providing accessible holistic services. My primary objective is to secure funding through grants in order to expand our reach and assist individuals who may not have the financial means to access our services. I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to health and wellness opportunities. My goal is to continue operating as a donation-based company, enabling clients to contribute what they can afford for the wellness care they require.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I established this business with the intention of empowering others and demonstrating that no matter what challenges we face in life, we have the capacity to achieve remarkable things. Personally, I have embarked on a journey of recovery from complex post-traumatic stress disorder. As a therapist, I initially sought therapy for my own treatment, but I soon realized that traditional therapy had its limitations. To truly progress, I had to delve into inner child healing and grant myself permission to acknowledge and embrace my emotions. In our society, we are often conditioned to suppress our feelings. Even a popular Christmas song warns us, “Better not cry, Santa Claus is coming to town.” From a young age, we are taught to deny our emotions, leading to various physical and mental health issues.
As I embarked on my healing journey, I discovered the transformative power of holistic practices such as circular breathwork, pranayama, and yoga. I also embraced the therapeutic benefits of art, incorporating art therapy into my self-care routine. Spirituality became a focal point for me, as I sought connection through meditation and prayer with my higher power, seeking guidance along the way. Yoga nidra, sound therapy, and other modalities allowed me to deepen this connection. Additionally, I recognized the essential role of physical fitness in the recovery process, as the mind and body are intricately intertwined. Our thoughts influence our physical sensations, and vice versa. It is crucial to acknowledge and fully experience our emotions in order to move through them and discover inner peace, light, and love. Our company serves as a sanctuary for individuals to embark on a journey of self-discovery, delving into the holistic practices that nurture the body, mind, and spirit as a whole.
