We were lucky to catch up with Willie Freeman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Willie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I will never regret taking that first step into owning my video production company called. I started this passion back in 2016 by editing simple video game content for Youtube and Facebook. Unfortunately, I wasn’t to make money to call this my career so I got a part-time job as a security officer and JCPenny’s. I worked at JCPenny’s for roughly a month and hated every bit of it. This gave me the drive and hustle to network & build relationships to survive in the Atlanta market as an editor. As I’m learning and developing my own style as a creative. I’m also taking courses on digital marketing and working with professional traffic coordinators.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Creative Goats is a video production house specializing in commercials, music videos, films, and social content. Our services range from filming, video editing, animation, color, you name it! There are thousands of production companies in Georgia, but what sets Creative Goats Studios apart is we want to share our knowledge with you so you can take your video production to the next level. We take risks that other production companies aren’t willing to take. I strongly believe that taking risks is one of the hardest challenges when creating a new business and it does pay off. We take ideas and make them a reality no matter how challenging they can be.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
At the moment Creative Goats is funded mainly by my personal client work and full-time editing jobs. This is how I bought the proper equipment, work clothing, paid vendors, etc. I’m working on looking into other options in the future to expand on building a photo and video studio here in the heart of Atlanta.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It would definitely be when I started and quit JCPenny’s. In this field, I’ve noticed it’s not about work it’s about who you know. This is why I find my journey so inspiring because it was only me. I had to work 10x harder to be where I am and I have to work 20x harder to get to where I want to be.
