We recently connected with Willie Ford and have shared our conversation below.
Willie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My journey to founding KJK Security Consultants is deeply rooted in my 25-year career in law enforcement, where I served as a police officer, detective, and supervisor. Throughout my tenure, I frequently encountered situations that could have been averted with proper training and preparation. As a Tactical Planning Sergeant, I was responsible for devising operational concepts and plans for major events, always aiming to ensure the safety of participants, spectators, and officers while minimizing incidents requiring police intervention.
This gap became more evident when FBI statistics revealed an uptick in active shooter incidents at Houses of Worship. My role expanded to assisting these institutions, where I discovered a dire need for specialized training beyond what regular police officers could provide.
This need, coupled with my impending retirement and desire to create a legacy for my grandsons Kameron, Jaylen, and Karson, led to the birth of KJK Security Consultants in December 2019. The company was founded not just as a business venture but as a mission to offer affordable security solutions to those in need, particularly Houses of Worship, regardless of their size or financial capabilities. It’s about making a difference and, sometimes, paying it forward.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My career in law enforcement began in 1998, following a 20-year tenure in the United States Army. My military service included roles in the 82nd Airborne Division, 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, and the Joint Readiness Training Center, where I gained extensive experience as a Military Policeman, Senior Intelligence Analyst, and Intelligence Observer/Controller.
In law enforcement, I’ve worked across various capacities, including Patrol Officer, Fugitive Apprehension Officer, and Narcotics Sergeant. My time in the Narcotics Division, particularly in undercover operations and as an expert witness in court, has been instrumental in shaping my approach to security and intelligence.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation in the market is a testament to my unwavering work ethic and meticulous attention to detail. I’ve always prioritized public safety in every aspect of my work, believing that thorough preparation and high expectations are key to successful event security.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business manager, Mr. Lear Johnson, through his event production company called Event Southwest, where he was managing marathons and special events. His dedication and efficiency always impressed me. Our collaboration began in earnest in 2017, following the tragic loss of five Dallas police officers in 2016. We organized a tribute event for the fallen officers, a healing experience for many, including myself.
Lear has been instrumental in the formation of KJK Security. His belief in my vision and his commitment to helping me start the business in 2019 have been invaluable. His support has been a cornerstone of our success, reminding me that the only limits we have are those we set for ourselves.
