We recently connected with Willie Filmore and have shared our conversation below.
Willie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
the first dollars I earned writing was when I signed a deal with a boutique-publisher. A boutique-publisher does all the leg work for you but you pay all the cost. You provide your story and they in return help edit, format, cover design and place your book on their website for sale. After a year pushing my book and finding out most my readers were not being able to download the novel half the time, I earned a whopping twenty-five dollars. (yes, you read that right) The thing about that situation is that I learned alot about the self-publishing industry and after getting the rights back to that book I have made alot more than that twenty-five dollars.
However, if it were not for the Boutique-publisher I would never have found this world of self-publishing and the business that surrounds it.
Willie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is W. C. Filmore, I write supernatural street horror. I have three short story volumes and two full length horror novels. I provide the escape readers crave on two levels. First, my short story collections each have two short quick reads for the reader on the run. Second, if you like longer binge reads my novels are your roller coaster rides into a world of thrilling adventures. If you’re looking for a different brand of horror, fun richly plotted stories, and fascinating characters pulled from right out your neighborhood W. C. Filmore has the stories for you.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission goal is to have as many people as possible read my stories. Yet setup my publishing business (website, email marketing, social media, and distribution) so that I can sell books while I continue to write.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
the most rewarding part of being a creative is having an idea that’s in a basic forum and pulling a story together from the many thoughts and images in my mind. shaping them into a cohesive story with characters you can root for. Then taking that piece of work and building a brilliant cover and a great marketing campaign around it. To hold the finish product in my hands and show others is a thrill beyond words,
