We were lucky to catch up with William Yawson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, William thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path when I was about 8 years old. That time Regular Show and Adventure Time was on the air. I loved how those shows were just wacky and fun to watch and it just spewed creativity. When I found out that it was made by actual real people with a story to tell I felt like I could do the same myself. I’ve since then wanted to pursue animation and other creative endeavors to tell my creative story/vision.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is William Yawson and I was born in Accra, Ghana. I am currently a SCAD international student which is my sophomore year. I have started drawing when I was a little kid but I started to drawing digitally when I was 13 years old. I since gotten into my craft when I started posting art during quarantine on Instagram and I have been posting more art ever since. My art is mainly digital and I draw all kinds of things in my own art style and vision. What sets me apart is that my art has a cartoony kind of feel but can also have a mix of realism too. I am really proud of how my art style have evolved over the years. When you go side by side with an art piece I made in 2020 and now you can crazy amount of growth I have in my art. I want all my pontential clients/ followers/fans to know that my art is a reflection of who I am and what I think and I would love to show everyone that imaginative mind of mine.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is just posting the art I made. The art that took me minutes even at some points hours to create. Cause for me seeing every like I get on that art piece always feels rewarding to me. And seeing that art piece I made on my own, the piece that was a draft in my mind translated into paper finally always feels nice you know.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I had Procreate on iPad sooner in my life because that app has helped me elevate my art to a whole different level. Back then when I was doing digital art had a drawing tablet and I was using Medibang and a trial version of Clip Studio Art. When I got my iPad and Procreate in 2022 during my freshman year of college I found it to be more comfortable for me to use than my drawing tablet.
