Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to William Washington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
William, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
Stay when I was telling my truth. I have found myself always living within the confines of performance, hoping that my authenticity would shine above that. I noticed that when I shared my light, they did not want my truth. I found myself in conditional spaces… you ever feel what its like to be invited to a space you weren’t welcome? I noticed that there are very few people that stay when you show your truth, and wanted to hide under your light. It was meaningful to see who stayed when it got hard for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into this because I found myself through helping people. I found that my music and service to helping others was how I became excited about living. I always followed my passions and found joy. Joy is the excitement for who I get to be in the moment I exist in. So when I say and brand myself as “Your friendly neighborhood Dr. Will,” it is because I truly believe in the power of friendship and community upliftment through art and service.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that people are unconditional. I am still unlearning that. I have been in spaces and relationships with people who have rules and capacities that they don’t speak upfront because it would not benefit them using me if I found out. People do have ulterior motives, and do not discuss the relationship dynamic upfront. and I have noticed that people will not care about the things you care about unless there is a buy-in or return on investment.
I am learning not to take that personally but to communicate more upfront for my own protection.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Completely, I would of done it sooner and more serious. I was meant for this, and I love people. I love humanity, and I wish I could of served earlier with what I know. I would not involve myself with health insurance, though, it is very unethical.
