Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to William Prize. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
William thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
After learning to produce records back in 2016 for recreation, I wrote my first song and the joy I felt from being able to turn the uglier episodes of my life at that time into a creative medium. It was a feeling I knew I wanted to build my life around.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m William Prize from fayetteville NC, I am an MC, song writer & producer I learned how to produce from my friend and label mate cidy pyramids. From there, I began to record music , perform in different area’s of the Carolinas and hone my craft to be the absolute best I could. I eventually would be become part of an independent hiphop collective known as “AZUS Records “.
There are many talented artist in the Carolina’s , however I think one thing that sets me apart is my ear for music, the pockets I choose to rap in, and my method of sampling when it comes to making my Melodie’s.
I would say one of throngs I’m most proud of when it comes to my career is just the fact that I’ve been able to sustain my dreams and stay creative. Being an independent to be able to stay potent and consistent is huge.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with music has change a few times since getting started. At one point, I wanted to “save hiphop” I personally didn’t like how conscious rap , or any rap other than trap or drill was being tossed to the side. Ultimately my goal is to be able to live the life I want to live and provide for my family doing so.
I’ve been in the military , and worked countless odd jobs to understand what it’s like to need money but hate what you have to do to get it. To make more opportunities for the creative community in fayetteville.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Stop only listening to music to be entertained, and support in bialy. When we put together venues actually come out. Ya indie artist have a lot to say and limitless talent but often go over looked.
