William, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission in this buisness is to create an affordable market for all people. As someone who has struggled with gettting an apartment i think its very important for all people to have a place to live. My main goal is to end homlessness but also generate profit.
William, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is william Johnson. I got into becomeing a Real Estate Investor after I go my real estate license. while i studied, i Realized some of the negative things thats happened in the Investing world and i hope to try and fix them for all. But what really helps me stand out from the others is how i plan to charge for rent. Most companies have a set base for rent and want you to make 3 to 3.5x the amount before allowing you to move in. Instead I have two methods for charging for rent. Instead of basing it off of your gross pay and charging a third. it will be a percentage based off of your net income. This percentage will be found based off of your paystubs and taxes. For example If you make 20$ hourly for 40hrs a week you’d make about 2,266$ a month net. on average in baltimore county, for a 1 bedroom, your rent is 1350$. leaving you with less than half. with my method, you’d be charged 755$. making it much more affordable. My second method is bidding. With this method, the more luxurious apartments would be bid for by potential renters with a cap on how high it can go. This would insure people bidding will already afford what they want. I also think it would be better to choose a rent yourself by bidding than a set ret of like 3k.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I funded my buisness my self by with a second job. But what really propelled me into getting my first property was loosing my car in an accident. After my car was totaled i was given a decent sized lump sunm by my insurance company so i purchased a property instead of a new car right away. It was hard gettig to work and my new property with no car but I had the disipline and hard work to do it. eventually, about 8 months later i had enough for a new car and that made it much easier.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Ive studied socialism and Stoicsism. These two ideologies really helped me get to were i needed to be today and still helps me grow not only as a buisnessman but also as a person. it helps me stay humble and focus on the people that nees help vursus my own wealth and fortune. But its also hard to gain an audiance if your not sucsessful yourself, and most people wont listen. But even if they do or dont i want to be able to give them the oppurtunity to choose.
