We caught up with the brilliant and insightful William Ingram a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi William, thanks for joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
The most important lesson I have ever learned from a previous job is to never, ever have another “job”. I vowed to never exchange time for money again. Now, I understand that you will need to do things and spend time to create ways to make money but when you doing things you don’t want to do or spending time to get a paycheck from a company that is not yours, you are essentially wasting time and life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Just like 99% of the rest of the traditional world, I went to school, worked a job, and thought I was on the right track doing that. Some people are ok with doing things they do not want to do in order to get a paycheck from a company they do not own or have equity in. It took me several years to realize I am not one of those people. Once I realized that a change needed to come, it happened very fast. Partly because I quit my job and lost everything. The other part was my mindset. I went through a phase of separating myself from almost everything and everybody that was in my life. Through that, ,y mindset began to change.
I went from sleeping in a FedEx truck of one of my former employers to having multiple investment properties, being inducted into a real estate investment group with over $2 Billion in assets, and being able to do what I truly love with film and music. It all started with my mindset. When I came to the realization that I deserved it, it happened. All of it!
I now use real estate to have the freedom and cash flow to travel and work on films and music on my own time. That would have never been possible if I would have stayed in the construct of the traditional way of life.
My real estate investment company “The Ingram Estates” is a part of a larger group that owns over 2500 doors. We own apartment buildings, homes, land, commercial property, and are even putting condo/ hotels in resort locations in the south now. I am always willing to talk to anyone interested in real estate so feel free to reach out via instagram (@theingram) or the website theingramestates.com.
Creativity is my way of life. I have been blessed to work on multiple Netflix films as talent and a part of crew. I have some amazing mentors around me that are constantly pushing me forward and giving me the opportunity to learn. Award winning filmmaker Coke Daniels has been like a big brother to me. He’s included me on multiple films and has been grooming me for my Directing career. People like himself, Adam Simon, WarParty Films, and several others have been so influential in being amazing examples in this business. I feel like I’m just getting started and to have some wise vets in my corner is such a blessing!
When it comes to music, It’s been a part of my life since I was born. I’ve played with multiple musicians and bands. I studied in High School under world renowned musicians Mike Wade and Melvin broach and went to college at Kentucky State University to march on trumpet in the band! Although the music was already in my blood, they helped to mold and shape things for me. I was still in high school playing live with people like Wade, Broach, Bootsy, Collins, and The Average White Band! They opened my eyes to a whole new world. I now write, produce and record my own music and have been doing so for years. You can find my current music on any streaming platform under the name “Ingram” I have new R&B music coming at the end of 2022.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Mike Ealy has a book titled “From Broke to Millions.” That book has changed my life. There are several influential books but i suggest everyone read this book, especially if you want to go from broke to a millionaire!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
It costs nothing to share content. I costs nothing to give a like or a share. So many people only support what is popular. Not knowing that most of the popular music, film, entertainment has been spoon fed to you and wouldnt be what it is without the massive amount of money put behind it. Just support true talent!
