We recently connected with William Gregory and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, William thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
The most innovative thing I’ve done is incorporate my daily business into my media life. Such as being a brand ambassador while also holding a media position. Per example, I am a distributor of Y.B.I. Luxury Wine and Clothing located in Detroit, MI and Atlanta, GA. Including wine’s such as B.M.F. Black Muscato, Benzino, Luxury Chardonnay and more. I will also be attending the Hip-Hop Fraternity Awards featuring Ice-T, B.M.F. affiliates, The 85 South Show cast and plenty of other celebrities.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well I started my media career my senior year of high-school going into my Freshmen year of college at Norfolk State University. To make a long story short, I’ve gone from having 3 internships at one time to 25 internships in my whole career so far and I’m only 23! From HBCU Grad, Historically Black Since and Common Black College Application, to now recently being the media manager for America’s Got Talent and soon to be Disney+ Detroit Youth Choir. Who recently performed at Detroit Symphony Orechestra Hall for an amazing first ever concert. I also am currently an AmeriCorps member at Wayne State University’s Climate R.E.A.D.Y.
Detroit Youth Choir went from my past media client to my employer in a matter of close to 2 years–something I would’ve never expected! I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve networked with so many people. From being apart of (For)bes The Culture, to having 30+ verified followers on Instagram through my various media works. By the Summer of 2023, big things will be in the works!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal that drives me is to one day have a business I can call my own without achieving my accomplishments through others. Creating an empire of which is run by me and everyone apart can succeed no matter their race, past, etc. I’ve seen many talented people fail in life and I don’t want to ever have to see it again without lending a helping hand! My mission, is somewhat similar but different in a way. My mission is to spread my message, love and knowledge to as much of the world as I can while helping others in the process.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I had a big following on social media even in high-school with 20K+ followers. After someone hacked my page though I started from scratch. Eventually making it to my current 11.6K followers. It was definitely hard work in the beginning, networking is key and takes a certain amount of skill along with persistence. You have to know what people want to see in their daily lives, what can they obtain by partnering with you and many other things. It’s a certain skill that I honestly cannot explain.
