We were lucky to catch up with Will Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Will, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
It’s important for me to teach gun owners how to properly handle their firearms. Most of what we learn growing up is completely based on myths and Hollywood films. Carrying these myths into our day-to-day lives can be extremely dangerous. Because of this, I’ve been pushing to get as many people as possible familiar with firearms, what they do, what they don’t do, and how to safely/effectively handle them. Most people that grow up around guns because they used to hunt or have law enforcement and military backgrounds are still not as educated on firearms as you would think.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry after retireing from being a personal training. I’ve always loved teaching/coaching. When I ran a fitness business, I used to take my clients to the range as a group building activity. Once I really began to immerse myself into firearms, I realized how much I didn’t know and how much “information” was completely based on myths. I didn’t want others to have the same experience so I began teaching.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the pandemic hit, meeting people face-to-face became problematic. I decided that I would continue to teach by offering online dry fire classes. I still run these classes once a month to this day. Teaching online allowed students to learn how to handle firearms while staying in the comfort of their homes. It also didn’t require any live ammunition so it was extremely budget-friendly.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by being transparent and by sharing my journey as I learned more about firearms. They got a chance to see me struggle as a beginner and then advance to the point where I am now. I still share content regularly. One thing that I’ve done that’s different is that I show my mistakes. I don’t try to pretend that I never miss or don’t have my own struggles. My audience appreciates that level of honesty/transparency.
