Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Will Hubert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Will, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Every day, as an artist in our society, I embrace risks that come with pursuing my passion. It’s no secret that those of us on artistic journeys often encounter skepticism, with people suggesting that our talents may not sustain us financially. These notions are ingrained so early that they can become internalized, shaping our beliefs. Yet, this only highlights the incredible power of creation that resides within us.
I’m fully aware of the risks I take each day, investing my time, energy, and heart into a path that might not offer the stability of a conventional life. I acknowledge the uncertainty that accompanies living with debt, lacking insurance, and without a traditional retirement plan. While I could opt for a more conventional career and attain a decent livelihood, I consciously choose not to.
Though I know I am no genius, I possess significant capabilities that could translate into a stable career outside of art. Nevertheless, I make a deliberate choice to rise every morning, embracing the risks and chances inherent in pursuing the life I yearn for. This decision isn’t just about the potential for financial success, but rather a reflection of the profound value I place on my artistic journey. Each day, I reaffirm my commitment to manifesting my creative aspirations and carving a unique path, even if it means forgoing a safer, more predictable route.
Through these risks, I’ve come to recognize that the pursuit of art is not just about defiance or rebellion, but an unyielding dedication to expressing my true self and contributing something genuine to the world. While the journey may be uncertain, it’s through these very risks that I uncover the depths of my capabilities and find a profound sense of purpose

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Will Hubert, and I am a musician who grew up in Sioux City, IA. After high school, I moved to Denver, CO to pursue a career in music, and I have been here ever since. Music has been an integral part of my life since a very young age, even though I was initially coerced into piano lessons from the ages of 5 to 9. Despite my initial dislike for lessons, I now realize that it was the greatest gift I could have ever obtained.
When I turned 14, music truly became the most important thing in my world. It all started with receiving the best of Led Zeppelin CD as a birthday gift and discovering my new neighbor’s drum set. That summer was a life-changing moment for me, and I worked hard, detasseling corn throughout the season to save up for my very first drum set.
As life moved forward, I faced challenging times in my mid-twenties due to alcoholism and drug abuse, which led to my self-inflicted departure from my band and music. However, I eventually found the strength to put down the bottle and prioritize my well-being. During that period, I developed a passion for rock climbing, which taught me valuable lessons, but I couldn’t ignore the call of music. It pulled me back, and I answered wholeheartedly.
In 2021, I joined Elektric Animals and became the main instrumentalist, recording all the drums, guitar, bass, and keys. Through some lineup changes, the lead singer, Nick Sanders, and I decided to take on the bulk of the work as a two-piece band, hiring guitar and bass players for live shows. Presently, we are doing the best we ever have, and I am thrilled about the journey ahead.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The best part of being a creative, in my experience, is the incredible feeling of bringing people together through the magic of sound. It’s hard to explain exactly, but you can feel it when it happens. Imagine when you’re at a concert, and the music makes everyone vibe in sync – it’s like our hearts beat as one.
When I dive into creating music or sharing it with others, something special takes place. It’s like the melodies and beats carry emotions and stories that we all understand on a deeper level. It’s as if the music isn’t just something we hear; it’s a way we connect, feel, and relate to each other.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Consider attending smaller-scale events and exhibitions, especially those with fewer than 100 people in attendance. These intimate gatherings often provide a more personal and immersive experience, allowing you to connect more deeply with the artists and their work. Your presence at such events demonstrates your genuine interest and can be a source of encouragement for local artists who are just starting to make their mark.
Delve into your local creative scene to discover artists whose work resonates with you. Take the time to explore galleries, studios, open mic nights, and independent shows. When you find artists whose work you truly admire and appreciate, make an effort to support them by attending their events, purchasing their creations, or sharing their work within your network. Your support not only bolsters their confidence but also provides them with valuable exposure.
