We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Will Frontera. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Will below.
Will, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew that I wanted to work as a filmmaker when I took my first screenwriting class. I had always been interested in film, but going into college I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with my life. I felt like I didn’t have a lot of options while my friends all knew what they were doing. I signed up for “Fundamentals of Screenwriting” as an elective and immediately fell in love with the creativity. My professor, Mitch Olson, had a great way of inspiring students to write and get more involved, and one day I volunteered to help work on his short film, the first set I’ve ever been on. On that set I felt right at home, and itched to get out there and get to more. It was then that I discovered my passion and knew I had to pursue it!

Will, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m just a simple guy who is attempting to make a breakthrough into an industry I love. I’ve had the great fortune of coming from a wonderful family who are supportive of my endeavors and have taught me to find the positives in any condition. Adapting to the situation surrounding me has always been a strong trait of mine. I like to think I’m quick on my feet and I get along with everyone I work with. I’ve always had a naturally happy, overwhelmingly positive outlook on things which I feel really helps me. It also allows my motor and ambition to run hot. I’m as driven and motivated to achieve something great in my field and put smiles on people’s faces as anyone you’ll come across. I often say I’m too ambitious for my own good, which is probably true, as I have over 20 feature films already outlined and hope to make someday. I work for a production company called Midnight Coffee, and we’ve made several projects I’m quite proud of including our proof of concept Dead Serious, which I produced. We have plenty of stuff coming down the pipeline as well that will be very exciting!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the reactions of the people you’re doing it for. I’m not into film for the fame or money, I’m into it because I want people to be able to put smiles or any emotion on peoples faces and allow them to just sit back and relax for a bit and take a break from the real world. I want people to have an experience they never forget when they watch something I worked on, it’s the satisfaction of seeing people happy in a world full of darkness that drives me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
In terms of my creative goals, I strive to make a great film in every single film genre. I have never been fixated on one genre, I like to spread the wealth and find great things in any different genre of film. I don’t wanna be known as “the action guy” or “the horror guy”. I would love to be a Jack of all trades, and if that means getting out of my comfort zone, then so be it! The way my mind works is I won’t be able to rest until I’ve accomplished everything I set out to achieve, so it looks like I might be going for a while, and I can’t wait for the results!
