Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Will Collette. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Will, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is impact. I want to reach the largest audience possible and show them that an unpredictable life is where the adventure is hidden. I just turned 30, and while most of my friends are settling in a small home or having kids, I’m buying a second race car and planning my return to Hollywood. There’s no rules in life, so stop acting like you need to follow what everyone else wants.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I recently completed a career in space command. I was a Captain in the Air Force that would fit wild adventures into every weekend outside of the base. I’d join the stage with the Chainsmokers at a festival of 100K people, bungee jump in the forest while wearing a suit and tie, jump on a Black Hawk helicopter and ride low and fast down Santa Monica beach, or photograph supermodels and get Chickfila after in LA. During the week, it was locked on mission tight for space and missile launches. I took my training as the PR guy for rocket launches and applied it to social media. In 2018, I moved to LA to start my career as a content creator. 3 years later, I’m driving my dream car around Orange County. Completely earned by making every financial sacrifice possible to keep the flame throwing R8 alive. The next step: break into Hollywood as a professional speaker or actor to show the world that you can live the most unpredictable and unique life possible.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Everyone wants a ton of social media followers. I found the main secret to growing your audience is authenticity. My followers could relate to the fact that I’m an average guy living in LA, without a trust fund, rich parents, or shortcuts that got me to where I am. I documented years of minimum wage, totaling a car, almost not making rent, side hustles and financial setbacks that crushed me. People love to see someone come from the same place they’re in, and somehow find a way to make it.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Integrity first. With a military background, everything I say must be the truth – all the time. It’s how I’m wired. Be the type of person that shows up on time, that does what they say they’re going to do, and never flake. When I used to shoot models, it would drive me crazy how often they would just blow off even paid work the day of the event. People are easily influenced by clout, money, or ego. I love the concept of extreme ownership, and I’ll be the first person to take blame in a situation. As a leader, you need to own everything in your world. I think that’s what helps me stand out in my market.
