We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wilhelmenia Nix a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wilhelmenia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
I started my business with just family and friends being my clients then as the months and years went on I built a community of clients that keeps vowing cause u have to push yourself there’s sometime I’m booking a party at 3Am going above and beyond for your clients makes a difference and they will spread your business to there friends and family.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Wilhelmenia Nix but everyone calls me Menia I got the calling for my business by doing my kids birthday party’s and my family’s for free then word of mouth and others started to inquire and your should start charging for full party’s so in 2017 I started Mrsnixandcompany a full party event planner and rental company and in 2021 I opened my banquet hall Mrs.Nix Event Center..

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I build my clients from Facebook by being consistent posting party’s at least 3 to 4 times a day posting deals to get a bigger advantage learning what’s old and what’s new in event planning hut most of all building relationships with others event Owners.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn was never book a event without a down payment and stick to it you will be out thousands of dollars and you designed and put together a $2000 party then nobody has your payment stick to your contract.
